Automation Engineer
Role summary
The Automation Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and optimizing robotic applications, developing strategies to reduce equipment downtime and maximize output, and designing programming applications to meet stipulated cycle times. This position is focused on the development, installation, programming, and safety of robotic work cells from conception to post-production turn-over. The role involves inspecting installation sites, installing and repairing robotic systems, building robotic devices, developing efficient and safe robotic path motions, and ensuring electrical drawings are current. The engineer will also support the maintenance department and lead continuous improvement projects.

Reports to: Engineering Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect installation sites.
- Install new robotic systems.
- Repair and modify wiring in control panels.
- Build or assemble robotic devices or systems.
- Develop robotic path motions to maximize efficiency, safety and quality.
- Ensure all electrical drawings are kept up to date.
- Assist maintenance department in supporting production.
- Lead various process/continuous improvement projects.
*JOB QUALIFICATIONS*
Education
- High School Dipolma
- Associate’s degree in engineering, programming, or a related field is preferred.
- Advanced training from robotics suppliers is preferred.
Experience
- 3+ Years of experience with robotic machine tending in a manufacturing environment
- 2 to 3 Years of experience setting up, installing, and troubleshooting electrical controls, process logic controls, and robotic systems
Requirements and Certifications
- Knowledge of ABB Robot Studio
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley 500 and 5000 PLC
- Familiarity with HMI Software
- Understanding of Ethernet I/P and Device Net Communication protocols
