Role summary
Seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the structural and mechanical design of the ENOS vehicle. Responsibilities include design, analysis, and testing of primary/secondary structures and mechanisms for launch and space operations. This hands-on role involves guiding subsystem integration, mentoring junior engineers, and defining hardware development practices. Requires 5+ years of experience in mechanical/structural design of aerospace or mission-critical hardware, proficiency in CAD (OnShape) and FEA (ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus), and experience with aerospace structures and hardware development from concept to test.
We are seeking a **Senior Mechanical Engineer** to take ownership of parts of the structural and mechanical design of the ENOS vehicle. In this role, you will lead the design, analysis, and testing of primary and secondary structures, mechanisms, and hardware that must survive launch, on-orbit operations, and controlled atmospheric reentry. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role where you will guide subsystem integration, mentor junior engineers, and help define Reditus Space’s hardware development practices.
### Responsibilities
* Own the design, analysis, and verification of ENOS mechanical and structural systems.
* Perform structural and thermal stress analysis (analytical and FEA) for flight-critical hardware.
* Lead material selection, structural optimization, and trade studies for weight, manufacturability, and performance.
* Develop and release CAD models, detailed drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
* Define and execute environmental qualification testing (vibration, shock, TVAC, reentry loads).
* Support integration and test campaigns, working directly with flight hardware.
* Drive interface control with other subsystems (propulsion, avionics, recovery, payload integration).
* Contribute to systems engineering and safety reviews to ensure compliance with launch provider and FAA reentry requirements.
### Basic Qualifications
* B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
* **5+ years of experience** in mechanical/structural design of aerospace or equivalent mission-critical hardware.
* Proficiency in CAD (OnShape) and structural FEA (ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus, etc.).
* Demonstrated experience with metallic and/or composite aerospace structures.
* Hands-on experience with hardware development from concept through test.
* Strong understanding of structural mechanics, thermal environments, and verification methods.
### Preferred Qualifications
* M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
* Experience designing for space environments (launch loads, microgravity, reentry).
* Familiarity with spacecraft integration and test processes.
* Experience with mechanisms (deployment systems, latches, hinges, pyrotechnics, etc.)
### Role Details
* **Location:** Atlanta, GA (on-site required)
* **Type:** Full-time, senior-level
