Starline Windows is seeking an Automation Engineer to join their growing team. This role involves troubleshooting and implementing new automation projects and equipment within a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include programming PLCs, creating schematics, CAD design, assembling automation systems, and configuring CAM software. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, 2+ years of experience in manufacturing automation, and proficiency in PLC programming and CAD software. Automation Engineer
Starline Windows is a manufacturer and installer of high performance glazing systems designed specifically for all categories of residential and hospitality projects including new developments, renovations and restorations. We have been in business for over 50 years and have successfully completed glazing contracts for thousands of projects throughout Western North America, from California to British Columbia and Alberta. Our 460,000 ft2 manufacturing facility is located in South Surrey, where we have equipment from all over the world.
Position Summary
Starline Windows is constantly innovating, automating and improving our production process. You will work in a team with Senior Engineers on new automation projects and implementing new equipment. Help troubleshooting existing systems when our maintenance team requires support. As you continue to learn and grow, you will be given small projects to manage with other team members, to learn project management skills and work toward becoming a Senior Engineer. We are constantly innovating, automating and improving our production flow. Daily Tasks and Key Responsibilities
- Advanced troubleshooting of automated equipment with mechanical, pneumatic, electronics control and electric systems on different types of machinery.
- Execute programmed and corrective service and calibration of CNC machinery.
- Programming and commissioning of Programmable Logic Controllers.
- Creating electrical and control schematics.
- CAD design and drawing creation of mechanical components for fabrication.
- Assembling and building new automation systems.
- CAM software configuration and troubleshooting.
- Programming parametric macros for specialized CAM software.
- Write, edit and maintain technical and servicing documentation.
- Available occasionally for Commissioning calls after hours and on weekends.
- Provide support for development projects, service work, and product testing.
- Work closely with Production Supervisors, Product Engineering, Maintenance Team, Installation Team, Suppliers, or others to assemble commissioning plans and resolve issues.
- Contribute to team efforts by completing all tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 2 or more years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 2 or more years experience programming and troubleshooting PLC.
- Fast learning skills and mechanical systems understanding.
- Skilled on creating, reading and understanding mechanical, pneumatic and electrical schematics.
- High proficiency using of Autodesk CAD software. Solidworks CAD software is also acceptable.
- Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
- Excellent analytical, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to details.
- Excellent communication and technical written skills.
- Excellent teamwork.
Valuable assets not mandatory
- Use and implementation on Ignition software experience is an asset.
- Practical Experience using CAM Software is an asset.
- Experience in the development of production automation/robotics is an asset.
- Experience on Commissioning new automation and control equipment is an asset.
