Role summary

Strategic Education Inc. (SEI) is seeking a Data Engineering Intern for its paid summer internship program. This full-time role within the IT department involves working on a collaborative scrum team to support mission-critical applications. Interns will gain hands-on experience in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting applications, learning modern technologies, and strengthening technical skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment. Responsibilities include preparing technical documentation, writing and testing code, troubleshooting, assisting with QA, and potentially working with data using Python and SQL, DevOps tools like Terraform and GitLab, and various database concepts.

As an intern within our Information Technology (IT) department, you’ll work full‑time alongside experienced engineers and project teams, contributing to real initiatives that support SEI’s mission and business goals. You’ll join a collaborative scrum team involved in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting mission‑critical applications. This internship offers the opportunity to learn modern technologies, strengthen your technical skills, and experience a supportive, fast‑paced engineering environment built on teamwork, curiosity, and hands‑on learning.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll support a variety of technical tasks within the IT organization. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing technical requirements and documentation
  • Writing, testing, and documenting code
  • Troubleshooting and debugging technical issues
  • Assisting with QA and application support
  • Helping develop technical and user support documentation

Depending On The Work Assigned To You

  • You may be writing Python and SQL to explore, ingest, transform, and extract data
  • You could be participating in DevOps workflows using tools such as Terraform and GitLab
  • You might be working with databases—including tables, views, stored procedures, triggers, indexes, and relational/dimensional models

Qualifications
Education

  • Junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate student in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field

Experience & Skills

  • Strong team‑oriented mindset
  • Creative and proactive problem‑solving skills
  • Self‑starter who asks questions and seeks clarity
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Experience connecting to data sources, including external APIs
  • Basic understanding of cloud concepts (Azure, AWS, or GCP preferred)
  • Familiarity with development methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, DevSecOps, and version control

$19.50 - $29.75 - Hourly
