Test Engineer
Role summary
SubCom is seeking a Test Engineer to support its Testing and Quality department, focusing on Optical Products and Systems Manufacturing. This role involves defining and controlling test processes and equipment, writing test procedures, training technicians, performing studies, maintaining test hardware, collecting data, and troubleshooting failures. The engineer will also coordinate technical discussions, establish SPC controls, analyze data, and improve test throughput and yield. The position requires a strong understanding of manufacturing test set operations and adherence to ES&H policies. Experience with technical computing software, test methods, optical testing, and telecommunications equipment architecture is preferred.

Position Overview:
The Test Engineer will be providing cover and support in the different areas of the Testing and Quality department. By supporting all areas encompassing, but not limited to, specification and drawing review, procedure writing, operator training, process improvements, troubleshooting process issues, disposition of non-conforming product, and equipment calibration and maintenance at Component, Module and Network levels. The candidate will coordinate technical discussions for the processes involved in his/her area. Optical Products and Systems Manufacturing will be the primary area of responsibility. This position will augment existing Engineering personnel in this area. A working knowledge of electronic controls and line drives is desired.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsible to define and control of the test processes and equipment
- Engineer shall document test procedures, train technicians and operators, perform MV and EOM study, maintain test hardware, fixturing, collect required test data, and troubleshoot test failures
- Troubleshoot and provide solution design and experimentation coordination with product engineers and R&D designers
- Establish SPC controls as required and support data analysis (Cpk analysis) with product engineering
- Improve product test throughput and yield to meet program objectives.
- Support company and facility Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) policies and programs by:
- supporting and meeting annual and long-term ES&H objectives
- including ES&H principles in shop procedures, equipment purchases, and equipment/product design
- attending appropriate ES&H training
- providing information for accident and incident investigations and assisting in implementation of corrective actions
- - Experience with manufacturing test set operation required
- Software experience with technical computing software preferred
- Working knowledge of test methods and experience writing procedures preferred
- Working knowledge of telecommunications transmission equipment architecture and function preferred
- Advanced degree in a technical discipline, BS Electrical engineering, Physics, Optical engineering preferred
- Experience in optical testing methodologies is preferred
- - Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are required
