About The Role
The Senior Distinguished Data Engineer role is a strategic and highly impactful position within Capital One’s Risk Management technology group. As a remote-eligible opportunity, this role involves leading the architecture, design, and implementation of cutting-edge data solutions that support the company’s risk and compliance initiatives. You will play a pivotal role in developing sophisticated data products for Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and compliance, while also building a unified, self-service data ecosystem for data scientists and analysts. Your expertise will be instrumental in replacing legacy systems with scalable, real-time data infrastructure that enhances decision-making capabilities. This position requires a thought leader who can influence technical strategies, mentor teams, and evangelize best practices across the organization, contributing significantly to Capital One’s technological evolution and risk data strategy.
Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
• Minimum of 9 years of experience in data engineering
• At least 5 years of experience in data architecture
• At least 3 years of experience building applications in AWS cloud environment
• Preferred: Master’s Degree in relevant discipline
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering (preferred)
• 3+ years of data modeling experience
• 2+ years of experience with ontology standards for domain definition
• 2+ years of experience with Python, SQL, or Scala
• 1+ year of experience deploying machine learning models
• 3+ years of experience implementing big data processing solutions on AWS

• Lead the development and promotion of modern data technologies, fostering adoption across teams and stakeholders.
• Drive awareness and understanding of engineering best practices, ensuring high standards of quality, reusability, and scalability.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to influence and shape enterprise data strategies and use cases.
• Operate as a trusted technical advisor for specific platforms or capabilities, providing guidance on implementation and integration.
• Mentor and coach internal talent, helping to develop next-generation data engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
• Actively participate in recruiting efforts to attract top technical talent, enhancing the organization’s engineering expertise.
• Promote an inclusive environment where diverse ideas are encouraged and valued.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Support the migration from legacy systems to scalable, real-time data infrastructure aligned with strategic risk management goals.
