About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer – Back End to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in leading the development and enhancement of our backend systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with client needs. As a key individual contributor, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy, guiding technical decisions and collaborating closely with stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions. Your expertise will support the planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects, often involving API design, system architecture, and backend development at scale. You will serve as a technical leader, advocating for best practices, driving process improvements, and mentoring junior team members. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on impactful projects within the federal civilian space, supporting agencies like NASA, GSA, HHS, and others to modernize legacy systems and build scalable digital infrastructure.
Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 9+ years of professional engineering experience in backend development
• Expertise in at least one major technology stack (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js, C#)
• Proven experience designing and working with APIs and backend systems at scale
• Strong understanding of system architecture, cloud services, and scalable infrastructure
• Experience leading technical teams and managing project delivery independently
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
• Experience participating in technical interviews and mentoring junior engineers

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of backend development projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and client requirements
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure backend systems and APIs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and stakeholders, to define technical solutions
• Proactively identify system constraints and opportunities for optimization and enhancement
• Document system architecture, design decisions, and technical processes to reduce ambiguity and facilitate knowledge sharing
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration efforts to uphold quality standards
• Support business development activities through technical presentations, bid-writing, and client-facing communications
• Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continually improve our engineering processes
