About The Role
As a Principal Software Engineer, Product at Valence, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, developing, and scaling our cutting-edge coaching platform powered by large language models (LLMs). You will be responsible for delivering end-to-end features, including designing resilient APIs, integrating advanced AI models, and creating polished, user-friendly interfaces. Your work will directly impact how enterprise clients access personalized coaching and leadership development tools.
This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and infrastructure engineers, to ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions. You will contribute to the full stack architecture, optimize system performance, and ensure the robustness of our platform in enterprise environments. Additionally, you will help shape the engineering culture by establishing best practices, mentoring team members, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in full stack software development with a strong portfolio of shipped production systems
• Deep proficiency in Python, preferably with Django or similar frameworks
• Strong JavaScript skills and experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Vue
• Experience designing and building scalable, secure, and high-performance enterprise applications
• Solid understanding of API design, integration of AI/ML models, and backend architecture
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and deployment automation (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure, CI/CD pipelines)
• Experience with frontend UI/UX best practices, accessibility, and responsiveness
• Ability to debug across the stack, from model behavior and backend services to UI logic and client performance
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working with cross-functional teams in an agile environment
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior engineers and fostering a positive engineering culture
• Willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and optimize backend services, including APIs, model integrations, and server-side logic
• Create intuitive and responsive frontend interfaces aligned with user needs and enterprise standards
• Own the full lifecycle of feature development, from requirements gathering to deployment and monitoring
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and infrastructure teams to deliver seamless user experiences
• Implement security best practices and optimize system performance for large-scale deployment
• Contribute to the evolution of engineering practices, tooling, and technical roadmap
• Mentor team members through code reviews, technical discussions, and best practice sharing
• Drive continuous improvement in development processes, automation, and observability
