About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Finhub Tooling team at Coinbase. In this pivotal role, you will own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the internal platform that manages and records fund movements across crypto, fiat, and internal wallets. Your expertise will enable the development of reliable, high-performance systems that serve multiple stakeholder groups including Engineering, Customer Experience, Risk, and Legal teams. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of a critical infrastructure component, drive innovation through AI-first approaches, and mentor a talented team of engineers. You will collaborate closely with product managers and senior leadership to translate complex technical visions into actionable plans, ensuring operational excellence and organizational impact. The role demands a blend of hands-on technical leadership, strategic thinking, and an ability to navigate ambiguous problems with clarity and confidence.
Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Proven track record designing and building fault-tolerant, scalable, and reliable systems.
• Experience architecting solutions to ambiguous problems with significant organizational impact.
• Strong ability to drive technical strategy and develop roadmaps for platforms or teams.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and building stakeholder alignment.
• Demonstrated mentorship skills and a history of elevating team technical quality through reviews and process improvements.
• Proficiency in developing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Familiarity with financial systems, ledgering, or trading platforms is a plus.
• Experience with internal tooling or admin platforms supporting operational teams is desirable.
• Knowledge of blockchain technology, onchain activity, and crypto ecosystems is advantageous.
• Comfort with responsible use of AI tools and continuous learning in evolving tech landscapes.

Responsibilities

• Own and define the technical strategy, architecture, and development roadmap for the Finhub Tooling platform.
• Lead the adoption of AI-first approaches to enhance internal workflows and operational efficiency.
• Design and develop systems that meet high reliability and performance standards for multiple stakeholder groups.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on complex initiatives and drive execution.
• Establish engineering best practices, quality standards, and process improvements for the team.
• Maintain high technical output while mentoring engineers and fostering technical growth within the team.
• Work closely with product managers and leadership to translate vision into actionable quarterly plans.
• Write clean, scalable, and thoroughly tested code to meet internal customer needs.
• Drive innovation by identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements using AI and other emerging technologies.
