Sangoma is seeking a UX/UI Designer to own the end-to-end user experience for their desk phone and device ecosystem. About The Role
In this role, you will take ownership of the end-to-end user experience (UX) for Sangoma's desk phone and device ecosystem. Your primary focus will be on designing intuitive, task-driven workflows and interfaces for embedded hardware environments that include physical keypads, small displays, touchscreens, and resource-constrained devices. You will work closely with firmware engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that the designs are accurately implemented and perform reliably in real-world scenarios. This is a hands-on engineering role that demands a strong understanding of human-computer interaction principles, usability, and real-time communication needs. You will be instrumental in defining how users interact with Sangoma’s products, ensuring seamless functionality for core telephony features such as calling, transfers, conferencing, voicemail, and call handling. The role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of enterprise communication devices and contribute to a product portfolio that directly impacts users’ daily interactions.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in UX, user interface design, product design, or interaction design (3 years preferred)
- Strong understanding of human-computer interaction principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention
- Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar
- Experience designing task-focused, workflow-driven interfaces
- Excellent communication skills to articulate UX rationale to engineers and non-design stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing project requirements
- Genuine curiosity, eagerness to learn, and motivation to become an expert in embedded device design
Preferred qualifications include experience with telephony, VoIP, enterprise communication products, designing for constrained platforms, and familiarity with localization and usability testing in enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
- Own the complete UX design process for Sangoma’s desk phones and embedded devices, from interaction models to detailed execution
- Design interfaces suitable for embedded hardware with physical inputs, limited screens, and real-time operational requirements
- Define and develop task-driven workflows for core telephony functions such as calling, transferring, conferencing, voicemail, and call management
- Create and maintain UI artifacts including user flows, wireframes, interaction specifications, and system behavior documentation
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to ensure accurate implementation of designs and optimal device performance
- Partner with product management to align UX solutions with customer needs, usage patterns, and business objectives
- Anticipate and address edge cases, failure states, and recovery scenarios in real-time communication environments
- Research regulatory and usability constraints to ensure compliance and optimal user experience
- Support usability testing efforts and iterate designs based on real user feedback and behavior analysis
- Promote consistency and usability standards across Sangoma’s broader device ecosystem to enhance overall user satisfaction
- Integrate AI tools into the design and development lifecycle to improve efficiency and product quality
