About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our FinHub Tooling team at Coinbase. In this pivotal role, you will own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the internal platform that manages and records fund movements across crypto, fiat, and internal wallets. Your expertise will enable the development of reliable, high-performance systems that support multiple stakeholder groups, including Engineering, Customer Experience, Risk, and Legal teams. You will play a critical role in driving innovation through an AI-first approach, identifying opportunities to leverage generative AI tools to enhance operational efficiency. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of a core platform, mentor engineering talent, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions that underpin Coinbase’s mission of increasing economic freedom globally.
Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of designing and building fault-tolerant, highly reliable systems at scale.
• Experience architecting solutions for ambiguous problems with significant organizational impact.
• Strong ability to drive technical strategy and develop comprehensive roadmaps for platforms or teams.
• Proficiency in building alignment across cross-functional stakeholders and leading complex initiatives.
• Demonstrated success in elevating team technical quality through mentorship, design reviews, and process improvements.
• Experience with high-volume transaction processing and internal tooling development.
• Knowledge of financial systems, ledgering, or trading platforms is preferred.
• Familiarity with blockchain activity, including Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps, or blockchain-based services, is a plus.
• Experience with rapid growth environments, scaling engineering teams from small to large sizes.
• Ability to responsibly utilize generative AI tools and stay current with evolving AI technologies.

Responsibilities

• Own and define the technical strategy, architecture, and development roadmap for the Finhub Tooling platform.
• Implement an AI-first approach to enhance internal workflows and operational efficiency across teams.
• Design and develop scalable, reliable systems that meet performance requirements for multiple stakeholder groups.
• Build consensus and secure commitment from cross-team partners to execute complex and ambiguous initiatives.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes for the team.
• Maintain high technical output while mentoring engineers to develop their skills and technical capabilities.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and leadership to translate product vision into actionable quarterly plans.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code that addresses the needs of internal customers and ensures system robustness.
• Drive innovation by exploring AI integrations and automation opportunities within internal tooling.
• Lead technical reviews, design discussions, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
