Job Description

This is a senior-level opportunity to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex automated manufacturing systems within a highly regulated, cleanroom production environment.

The role is responsible for
owning the controls engineering scope
across high-priority, high-complexity projects—driving solutions that improve safety, reliability, throughput, and long-term maintainability. This individual will operate in a highly cross-functional environment, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver scalable automation systems from concept through deployment.

This position requires a
platform-agnostic automation expert
with strong experience in PLC/HMI programming, motion control, robotics integration, and SCADA systems. The engineer will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and technicians, establishing design standards, and supporting long-term system performance and upgrades.

Day-to-Day

- Lead end-to-end controls engineering scope for complex automation projects (architecture, design, execution, and delivery)
- Develop and review technical documentation including electrical schematics, P&IDs, panel layouts, and system architectures
- Design and implement
PLC/HMI systems with modular, maintainable code structures
across multiple platforms
- Integrate advanced automation systems including
multi-axis motion control and robotics (Cartesian, SCARA, cobots)
- Architect and support
SCADA systems
including data integration, reporting, and system connectivity
- Design and manage
industrial networks
, including secure connectivity and remote access
- Oversee system builds, panel installation, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, CE, etc.)
- Lead system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of complex automated equipment
- Support validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) and ensure proper documentation and traceability
- Provide initial post-deployment support and transition systems to manufacturing and maintenance teams
- Drive continuous improvement efforts, including system upgrades, standardization, and obsolescence planning
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians and contribute to overall team development

Requirements / Qualifications

- 3 levels available, candidates with 3-30 years will be considered
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience with
PLC/HMI programming and system architecture design
(platform-agnostic preferred)
- Experience with
advanced motion control and robotics integration
(multi-axis systems, industrial robots, cobots)
- Experience designing and supporting
SCADA systems and industrial automation networks
- Proficiency with
AutoCAD (electrical or mechanical)
and development of engineering drawings
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, CE; hazardous environments is a plus)
- Experience with
system commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support
- Exposure to scripting/data tools (Python, SQL) for automation and reporting is a plus
- Strong project ownership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers/technicians is preferred
