Role summary

The Director, Software Engineering leads and directs all software development activities, including new solutions and maintenance. This role involves close collaboration with the Data Team for software and data compatibility and direct supervision of software developers, coordinating projects with the CIO. The position requires strong coding skills in multiple languages, decision-making abilities, and a deep understanding of engineering principles. Experience in cross-functional communication is essential. Desired qualifications include experience in the healthcare payer industry and HIPAA-regulated environments.

The Dir/VP Software Engineering is responsible for leading, planning, directing, and coordinating activities related to software development in such fields as information systems, systems analysis, and computer programming. Leading in the design and development of both new solutions and the support of maintenance support tickets ensuring system usability. Works closly with the Data Team in the coordination of compatability of software applications and data. Directly supervises software developers and coordinates system projects with the CIO.

Required:

  • At least a four year degree in Computer Science or comparable work experience.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong coding skills in multiple languages/frameworks. (C#, .NET, VB6, REST APIs, Git, and SQL)
  • Able to update and use relevant knowledge and keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to job.
  • Able to make decisions and solve problems and analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods, services, and solutions.
  • Cross-Funtional departent communications experience.
  • Excellent listening skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor Developers and Analysts.
  • Develop computer information resources, providing for data security and control, strategic computing, and disaster recovery.
  • Provide advice on project costs, design concepts, or design changes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and software developers to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for the development or troubleshooting of systems.
