AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Role summary
We are seeking a fractional AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for a project-based engagement with a US-based software startup client. The role is remote, with a preference for candidates in Africa or Asia. You will be responsible for selecting and deploying appropriate AWS services, writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CDK), configuring autoscaling, and setting up monitoring and alerting. Key responsibilities also include building CI/CD pipelines, implementing security best practices (IAM, WAF, KMS), managing encryption, and documenting all infrastructure changes. A software development background is not required, but deep AWS knowledge and the ability to work independently are essential.
- Engagement:
Fractional/hourly. Project-by-project. No retainer. Each engagement has a defined start date, end date, and scope.

- Certification:
AWS certification preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience considered.
ABOUT THE ROLE::
We are recruiting for a project with one of our US-based clients which is a startup U.S.-based software company. We are looking for a reliable AWS infrastructure engineer to engage on a project basis.
You will work alongside a distributed engineering team. A software development background is not required. What matters is that you know AWS well, can assess a requirement, choose the right services, and follow the latest architecture and engineering standards and best practices to deliver independently.
WHAT YOU WILL DO::
Infrastructure
•
Select and deploy the appropriate AWS services given a technical requirement
•
Work with: EC2, Amplify, CloudFront, DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, Route 53, WAF, KMS, Secrets Manager, CodePipeline, etc.
•
Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK
•
Configure autoscaling and performance tuning as needed
•
Utilize CloudFlare and Route53 DNS services as needed for non-prod and prod environments
Monitoring & Cost
•
Set up and improve CloudWatch dashboards, alarms, and log groups
•
Build alerting that routes incidents to the right person
•
Find and fix infrastructure cost inefficiencies; document what you changed and why
CI/CD
•
Build and maintain deployment pipelines using CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or equivalent
•
Support zero-downtime deployments and rollback strategies across Dev, QA, Demo, and Production
Security
•
Apply IAM least-privilege, RBAC, and WAF policies
•
Manage encryption at rest and in transit via KMS and Secrets Manager
•
Support basic PCI-relevant controls for payment processing infrastructure
Documentation
•
Document all infrastructure changes clearly so the team can follow what was done and why
•
Participate in async communication and occasional scheduled calls
REQUIRED::
•
3+ years in an AWS infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE role
•
Hands-on experience with EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFront, Route 53, IAM, CloudWatch, KMS
•
Infrastructure as Code — Terraform or AWS CDK (must be demonstrable with recent work)
•
CI/CD pipeline setup and maintenance, including Docker-based deployment workflows
• Docker — understanding of containerized deployments is required, not optional
•
Python or Bash scripting for automation tasks
•
Linux administration
•
Ability to work independently without step-by-step direction
PREFERRED::
•
AWS certification — Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer, Associate or Professional
•
Experience with Cloudflare DNS and WAF
•
Experience supporting fintech platforms
