Security Engineer II (Data Security Specialist)

Location: Los Angeles, CA. (Remote – NO EST candidates)

Duration: 6-Month W2 Assignment (Potential Extension)

Pay Rate: $53–$59/HR

Position Overview:

The Security Engineer II (Data Security Specialist) will support enterprise data protection initiatives by integrating Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions with data classification frameworks. This role focuses on enforcing consistent data handling controls and ensuring secure data governance across both on-premise and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in information security, incident response, and security technologies, with the ability to proactively identify risks and implement effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage data security controls, including DLP and data classification integrations
  • Monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to security incidents in a 24/7 environment
  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols
  • Configure and troubleshoot security infrastructure and tools such as IDS, antivirus, authentication systems, and log management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to enhance security posture and incident response efforts
  • Recommend and implement security improvements, automation, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Prepare reports documenting security incidents, vulnerabilities, and remediation efforts
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards including HIPAA, PCI, and NIST
  • Support continuous monitoring and protection of enterprise data across systems and networks
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Security or Security Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with security tools such as IDS/IPS, antivirus, authentication systems, and log management
  • Strong understanding of network security and operating system security principles
  • Experience with incident response and security operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Experience with DLP tools and data classification technologies
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, PCI, and NIST
  • Experience supporting both cloud and on-premise environments
