Design Automation Engineer
Role summary
The Design Automation Engineer will develop and support software tools to automate engineering design processes. This role involves creating product designs, executing CADD work, and ensuring design consistency across the organization. The engineer will gather and validate product information to generate actionable insights for product proposals, aligning concepts with company strategies and technical feasibility. Responsibilities include creating market and material specifications, reviewing drawings and bills of materials, and supporting the product test system. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial Design and a minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial design, CADD, configuration management, and software integrations are required. Proficiency in CADD tools, Microsoft Office, and SQL queries is essential.
Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is the development and support of software tools to automate engineering design processes. The position is also responsible for gathering, converting, and validating product information into actionable insights used to develop product proposals in a structured process that includes ideation, conceptualization, and concept development. Integral parts of the process include confirming that concepts conform with VELUX strategies, design for the customer, technical feasibility, and evaluation of the critical business success factors. The position is reported directly to Automation and Outsourcing Manager.
Standard Work Schedule
: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
Monthly Pay Range:
$6,567.00 - $8,209.00
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create product designs ending at an initial business case used to kick off product development.
- Execute CADD work that supports the design process.
- Responsible for learning and maintaining best design and modeling practices to support CADD automation.
- Work closely with other engineers to maintain consistent design language and product philosophy.
- Work closely with product management, estimating, engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality to ensure well balanced and effective designs.
- Create critical market and material specifications needed to describe product requirements and constraints.
- Reviews and approves detailed product drawings and bills of materials for completeness and correctness including material, geometry, tolerance, etc.
- Supports the product test system by developing test methods resulting from development work.
- Assists with budget preparation.
- Performs other assignments as directed by local management based on Company needs.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Industrial Design is required.
- Minimum of 3 years industrial design experience in the following areas: CADD, configuration management, manufacturing, technical documentation, and other industry technologies (such as CRM, MRP, and ERP) to identify, assist/implement, and manage the implementation team in software integrations as required.
- Proficiency with 3D CADD tools is required. (Thorough understanding parametric relationship of SolidWorks/ DriveWorks preferred)
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure (hardware, software, network, relational databases) understanding of software licensing (licenses, maintenance, SaaS) and deployment technologies (i.e., On‐premises, cloud, hybrid)
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel) and SQL queries and commands for Database integration and automation.
- Research, competitive analysis experience, is preferred.
- Project management experience is required with project completion skills demonstrated.
