Role summary
Sioux Area Metro (SAM) is seeking a Lead Diesel Mechanic in Sioux Falls, SD, to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on buses and automotive equipment. This role involves directing complex operations, repairing/replacing vehicle subsystems, and collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers. The ideal candidate has 7-10+ years of mechanic experience, Class AA and ASE certifications, a valid SD driver's license, the ability to lift 100 pounds, and pass a physical, drug screening, and background check. A high school diploma or GED with trade/vocational school is required, with additional manufacturer training being a plus.

As a Lead Diesel Mechanic at SAM by Via, you will perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on buses, automotive equipment, and shop equipment.
What You’ll Do:
Direct highly varied and complex operations related to vehicle and equipment service
Repair and/or replace any subsystem associated with heavy, medium, and/or light duty SAM coaches and automotive equipment
Work with other maintenance workers, drivers, and transportation supervisors
Maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors
Who You Are:
7-10+ years of mechanic experience
Possess knowledge of the design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair of systems and subsystems of SAM coaches and related shop equipment
Able to work on their feet eight hours per day, lift 100 pounds, and carry parts, equipment, and supplies
Class AA and ASE Certified
Hold a valid SD driver’s license
Able to obtain a CDL permit
Able to pass a pre-employment physical
High school diploma or GED equivalent, including trade or vocational school. Additional training at manufacturer’s schools, courses, or seminars is a plus.
Pass a drug screening and background check: no felonies, clean MVR, no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions, and no more than 2 speeding tickets
Compensation and Benefits
Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills.
Salary Range: $37.32 / hour
