About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and product-minded engineer to join our team, focusing on building the next generation of OpenAI’s internal developer experience. This role is at the intersection of product design, engineering craft, and real-world scale, requiring a deep understanding of user experience, interaction design, and developer needs. The successful candidate will own end-to-end experiences across multiple UI/UX surfaces within our internal tooling ecosystem, helping to reimagine best practices in the software development lifecycle amid the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven development. You will collaborate closely with engineers and internal stakeholders to understand pain points and craft simple, effective UI/UX solutions that enhance core developer workflows. Your work will integrate AI-empowered developer experience tools that balance capability with simplicity and control, setting a high standard for performance, reliability, and usability to ensure a world-class experience for every engineer at OpenAI.
Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of professional engineering experience (excluding internships) in building user-facing products.
• Strong expertise as a frontend engineer or full-stack engineer with a deep understanding of UI/UX principles, modern web fundamentals such as TypeScript, React, component design, and state management.
• Experience in zero-to-one environments or owning product surfaces with ambiguous requirements and high urgency.
• Proven track record of building internal tools, enterprise solutions, or workflow-heavy products tailored for technical users.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with a focus on user-centered design and interaction.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and translate complex technical concepts into intuitive user experiences.

Responsibilities

• Own major product areas end-to-end, including problem discovery, UX iteration, technical design, implementation, rollout, and ongoing improvements.
• Partner closely with engineers and internal stakeholders to identify pain points and develop simple, effective UI/UX solutions that streamline core developer workflows.
• Design and iterate on AI-empowered developer experience tools that strike a balance between capability and simplicity/control.
• Set and maintain high standards for product performance, reliability, and usability, ensuring a seamless experience for all users.
• Continuously gather feedback, analyze usage data, and refine user interfaces to enhance productivity and satisfaction.
• Stay updated with the latest trends in UI/UX design, frontend development, and AI integration to inform product development.
