Job Title: Systems Engineer – IT Infrastructure & Cloud

Reports to: Director of Information Technology

Summary:

The Systems Engineer keeps Alliance's hybrid infrastructure running, secure, and recoverable. Most of that environment is on-premises Windows Server and Hyper-V, connected to Microsoft 365 and Azure services. This role owns the server, virtualization, endpoint management, security tooling, and network layers, and is the escalation point above the Level 1 support team. As a community mental health provider, Alliance depends on these systems for clinical care, crisis services, and billing around the clock.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Primary work location is Memphis, TN (on-site, with travel between Alliance locations). Standard weekday business hours, with planned after-hours maintenance windows. The IT department provides overnight and weekend on-call coverage on a rotation, and this role participates in that rotation.

 Education Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience (required).

Licensure/Certification Requirement:

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between sites (required). Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA Network+ or Security+ preferred.

Experience Requirement:

Minimum of five (5) years administering Windows Server and Active Directory in a production environment required. Hands-on experience with Hyper-V or another enterprise hypervisor (VMware experience transfers), working experience administering Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Intune, experience with endpoint security tools (preferably Microsoft Defender), solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless), and scripting ability in PowerShell to automate routine work required. Experience in healthcare or another regulated environment, including familiarity with HIPAA, preferred. Experience with Ubiquiti UniFi networking; Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Autopilot; and exposure to Azure infrastructure (virtual machines, networking, backup, Azure Arc) preferred. Must demonstrate clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical issues to clinical and administrative staff.

 Key Job Responsibilities

Servers and Virtualization

  • Administer Windows Server and Hyper-V hosts, clusters, and virtual machines, including capacity planning, patching, and performance tuning.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file and print services.
  • Maintain hybrid identity between on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Plan and carry out migrations and upgrades, including moving workloads to Azure where it makes sense.

Microsoft 365 and Endpoint Management

  • Administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and licensing.
  • Manage devices through Microsoft Intune: enrollment, compliance and configuration policies, app deployment, and Windows Update rings.
  • Build and maintain standard images and provisioning (Autopilot) for workstations and laptops.

Security and Compliance

  • Configure and monitor Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, and related security tooling; investigate and respond to alerts.
  • Manage Conditional Access, multifactor authentication, and least-privilege access.
  • Apply HIPAA Security Rule safeguards to systems that store or transmit protected health information, and support the annual Security Risk Assessment with technical evidence.
  • Keep servers, endpoints, and network devices patched against known vulnerabilities.

Network

  • Administer the UniFi network, including gateways, switches, wireless access points, VLANs, firewall rules, and site-to-site VPNs.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity across Alliance sites and coordinate with internet and telecom carriers.

Backup and Disaster Recovery

  • Run backup jobs for servers, virtual machines, and Microsoft 365 data, and test restores on a set schedule.
  • Maintain and test the disaster recovery plan for critical clinical and business systems.

Support and Documentation

  • Serve as the Tier 2/Tier 3 escalation point for help desk tickets, and coach Level 1 technicians.
  • Document configurations, procedures, and network diagrams so others can support the environment.
  • Work with the EHR administrator and outside vendors on integrations and system changes.
  • Recommend improvements and help plan IT projects and budgets.

Physical Demands

  • Extended periods of computer work, with close visual attention to screens and detail.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of IT equipment up to 50 pounds (servers, UPS units, switches), with assistance for heavier items.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders to install network equipment, run cabling, and work in server rooms and wiring closets.
  • Regular travel between Alliance locations in the Memphis area.

Other

  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and respectful communication while operating in alignment with Alliance Healthcare Services’ values and commitment to high-quality client care and organizational excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
