Role summary

Amae Health is seeking a Mental Health Therapist for its upcoming clinic in Orange, CA. This role is part of an interdisciplinary team providing integrated, high-acuity outpatient care for individuals with severe mental illness (SMI). Responsibilities include providing individual and group therapy, collaborating with care teams, and addressing patient needs within a holistic model. The ideal candidate holds a CA license (Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC), has at least 1 year of experience with SMI patients, and is proficient in evidence-based interventions like CBT, DBT, or MI. Experience with Medi-Cal is strongly preferred. The role emphasizes collaboration, autonomy, and technological savviness within a mission-driven organization.

The Problem

Severe mental illness affects over 15 million adults in the United States. Schizophrenia. Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar I. Treatment-resistant depression. These are the conditions the rest of healthcare has systematically failed to build for.

What makes this problem different from most of healthcare is that the tools to solve it do not exist. The clinical protocols, the measurement science, the precision medicine, the technology to deliver coordinated longitudinal outpatient care for this population. None of it has been built. This is a frontier problem, and it requires frontier science and care delivery to solve.

Who We Are

Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people living with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. We design and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics across the United States.

Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community health workers under one roof to deliver coordinated, longitudinal care for a population that has historically been fragmented across systems.

The Role

We are hiring a Mental Health Therapist to join our upcoming clinic in Orange, CA as part of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to delivering personalized, compassionate, high-quality care for individuals with SMI. Onsite supervision for limited permits is available.

What You Will Work On

Provide individual and group therapy to a panel of complex SMI patients

Provide continuous, regular support as patients navigate recovery, both in person and occasionally virtually

Deliver evidence-based care in a holistic, wrap-around care model

Collaborate with patient care teams and behavioral health providers to ensure an integrated, cohesive approach to care

Address medical needs to mitigate negative impacts of social determinants of health

Provide consultation to therapists on the treatment team, including licensed therapists and trainees; assist with program development

What You'll Have

Active Licensed Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC license in the state of CA; onsite supervision for limited permits available (LMSW, AMFT, LPC)

Active Medi-Cal enrollment is strongly preferred

Thrives in a collaborative team environment and establishes positive relationships with other medical professionals

Experience and interest in working with adults and at least 1 year of experience working with patients with severe mental illness

Experience in evidence-based interventions, including CBT, DBT, or MI

Ability to navigate challenging situations with professionalism

Thorough understanding of confidentiality and appropriate documentation standards

Technologically savvy, with the ability to learn and navigate new tools and technologies

Highly organized with the ability to work autonomously

Strong listening skills and excellent verbal communication capabilities

Compensation & Benefits

Amae Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Base salary range for this role (full-time schedule) is based on licensure level:

Associate level: $75,000–$90,000, based on hours

Licensed level: $90,000–$115,000, based on experience
