Role summary

AWS Supply Chain is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to design and build the simulation platform, tools, and algorithms for AWS data center replenishment planning. This role involves tackling complex optimization problems to balance cost, speed, and reliability across global operations. Responsibilities include owning system components, collaborating with stakeholders, participating in code reviews, and driving operational excellence. The position requires 3+ years of professional software development experience, 2+ years in system design/architecture, and experience with languages like C#, C++, Java, or Perl. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is required.

AWS Supply Chain is at the forefront of building the infrastructure that powers the world's most comprehensive cloud platform. We're scaling at an unprecedented pace, engineering solutions to deploy 2 million+ racks to meet the explosive growth in customer demand. This is infrastructure planning at a scale few companies in the world face—where your code directly enables AWS's global expansion.

As a Software Development Engineer II, you'll tackle complex optimization problems that balance cost, speed, and reliability across our global supply chain. You'll design and build the simulation platform, tools, and algorithms that determine how we replenish AWS data centers worldwide. Your work will have immediate, measurable impact on AWS's ability to serve millions of customers and support the rapid growth of cloud computing.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement core components of the simulation platform and optimization algorithms that power AWS data center replenishment planning across global operations
- Own significant portions of the planning system, delivering features across the full software lifecycle from design through deployment, testing, and operational support
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and customers to translate complex supply chain requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions
- Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and ensuring high code quality standards across the team
- Drive operational excellence by identifying root causes of system issues, implementing permanent fixes, and continuously improving team processes and software performance

A day in the life
Your day begins with team standup where you sync on progress and unblock peers. You'll spend significant time writing and reviewing code—whether building new optimization algorithms, refactoring existing systems for better performance, or implementing features requested by supply chain planners. Throughout the day, you collaborate closely with stakeholders and customers to understand their evolving needs, translating business requirements into technical solutions. You balance feature development with operational work, investigating metrics, responding to system alerts, and ensuring the platform runs smoothly at scale.

About the team
