Role summary

AMI is seeking a Robot Operator to join their AI research team. This role involves meticulously following instructions to evaluate AI models and algorithms by arranging objects, operating robots for data collection (teleoperation, scripted, programmatic), and annotating data. Responsibilities include lab operations, safety monitoring, and basic computer tasks. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, spatial awareness, basic computer and Linux skills, and a willingness to learn new control systems. Experience with robotics, data annotation, or hardware troubleshooting is a plus.

About AMI

We are building a new breed of AI systems that (1) understand the real world, (2) have persistent memory, (3) can reason and plan, and (4) are controllable and safe.

We are a team of scientists and engineers building frontier world model-based AI. We combine the scientific rigor of a top-tier research institute with focus on engineering excellence and execution.

We are a global company, with offices in Paris, Montreal, New York, and Singapore. Come build the future of AI with us!

What you'll do

Model and algorithm evaluation

  • Arrange objects and scenes in exact, specified configurations so that test runs are comparable.

  • Launch our algorithms on the robots following written instructions, and watch each run closely.

  • Record outcomes (success, failure, partial), timings and anything unusual, accurately and consistently.

  • Reset the scene and repeat across many trials and variations.

Data collection

  • Teleoperate robots through tasks such as picking, placing, sorting, stacking, opening containers, tool use and simple assembly, using leader–follower arms, VR or motion-tracking rigs, gamepads or keyboard interfaces.

  • Run scripted or programmatic data collection where the robot is driven by code rather than by hand.

  • Introduce requested variations in objects, positions, lighting and task order while keeping your technique consistent.

  • Meet daily targets for data volume without compromising quality or safety.

Data annotation and review

  • Review recorded episodes and mark them as successful, failed or invalid and assign rewards.

  • Label task phases, outcomes and failure reasons using our annotation tools.

  • Write clear operator notes so researchers understand what happened in each run.

Lab operations and safety

  • Start up, calibrate, inspect, reset and shut down robots, cameras and operator stations using documented procedures.

  • Spot unusual robot behavior, hardware faults or software issues, stop work when something looks unsafe, and report problems clearly enough for an engineer to reproduce them.

  • Keep stations, objects and shared spaces organized and inventoried.

  • Test new tasks, hardware and tools, and suggest improvements to our procedures.

What we're looking for

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to come up with creative solutions

  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to follow written instructions exactly.

  • Strong hand–eye coordination, manual dexterity and spatial awareness.

  • Ability to learn new physical control systems quickly.

  • Comfort with repetitive, precision-focused work, and the focus to keep quality consistent over a full shift.

  • Clear written and verbal communication, especially when describing what went wrong.

  • Basic computer skills: running programs from instructions, using spreadsheets, video review and data-entry tools.

  • Comfort with a Linux terminal, basic Python, or running scripts.

  • Sound safety judgment, including the willingness to stop a robot when something looks off.

  • Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with robot arms, mobile robots or automation equipment.

  • Basic hardware troubleshooting: cables, cameras, networking, power.

  • Background in lab, manufacturing, assembly, fulfillment or quality-control work.

  • Gaming, VR/AR, simulation, motion capture or other controller-based experience.

  • Data annotation, AI training operations or structured video review.

  • Comfort with a Linux terminal, basic Python, or running scripts.

  • An interest in AI and robotics research. This is a full-time, in-office role with a 40-hour workweek. Starting pay is $25 per hour.
