Role summary

Appian is seeking an Associate Product Engineer to join their Product and Solutions department in McLean, VA. This on-site role focuses on building turnkey applications using React and JavaScript to enhance user experiences on their AI-Powered Process Automation platform. Responsibilities include developing interfaces, optimizing data structures, collaborating on integrations and testing, and participating in code reviews. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field, 1-5 years of software engineering or product development experience, and foundational knowledge of data structures and backend systems. Preferred qualifications include experience with SaaS, AI/LLMs, Agile/Scrum, and enterprise platforms like Salesforce or ServiceNow.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As an Associate Product Engineer, you will actively contribute to our engineering culture, working alongside senior mentors while taking personal responsibility for your own growth and work output. This is your chance to learn to scale high-impact software while leveraging our core AI-Powered Process Automation platform to build sophisticated interfaces using standard UI languages.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Utilize React and JavaScript coding languages to develop and support superior user experiences within robust, configurable end-to-end applications.

Assist in designing and optimizing baseline data structures and executing data mapping to ensure seamless, real-time data flow across systems.

Collaborate on integrations, system testing, cloud scaling, and performance optimization initiatives under the guidance of senior engineers.

Participate in code reviews and team learning sessions to absorb engineering best practices and accelerate your technical capabilities.

Own your deliverables and hold a high level of personal accountability for the quality, accuracy, and timely completion of your engineering sprint tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

1 to 5 years of professional or foundational internship experience in a software engineering or product development environment.

Academic or professional exposure to and hands-on experience with React and/or JavaScript.

Fundamental understanding of data structures, backend systems, and baseline data mapping concepts.

Knowledge of or introductory experience with third-party integrations, system testing, or application performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Exposure to building or customizing multi-tenant SaaS applications or enterprise systems during internships or personal projects.

Proven fluency in AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), encompassing both the strategic development of intelligent capabilities and the hands-on application of AI tools to accelerate daily product workflows.

Prior experience working in an Agile/Scrum team environment.

We value experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or ServiceNow, as these skills translate well into our Enterprise-Grade Orchestration environment.

The base salary range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant work experience, qualifications, internal peer equity, and market and business conditions that exist when extending an offer. A discretionary bonus may be awarded in recognition of individual and company performance.
