Role summary

Arc is seeking a People Operations Intern for the summer (June 14th-August 20th, 2027) at its Torrance, CA headquarters. This role supports the People team's daily operations and programs, focusing on process improvement, training content management, employee record auditing, payroll support, compliance paperwork, event planning for a company retreat, and engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a clear communicator, possesses a systems mindset, is highly organized, detail-oriented, a proactive problem-solver, proficient with G Suite, and has hands-on experience with AI tools. Experience with HR systems like Rippling, Greenhouse, and CultureAmp is a plus. The internship offers a pay rate of $32 per hour and valuable mentorship opportunities.

The marine industry supports recreation, global commerce, and national defense. And yet it runs on technology that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years. Until now.Arc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. And we're already executing. We started with consumers to develop and harden our core technology. We’re now scaling production of our flagship model with new models and sectors on the horizon. Now we’re extending our platform to commercial applications, starting with tugs, ferries, and defense, with years worth of signed contracts and a pipeline that spans every vessel type on the water.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who’s fired up by our mission and ready to build. You’ll thrive here if you adapt quickly, take ownership, and care about the details.

You will join our People team as a summer intern from June 14th-August 20th 2027. You will work from our headquarters in Torrance, CA. Given that we’re a startup, you will be working in a fast-moving, dynamic environment that requires adaptability. That said, here are some responsibilities and qualifications we expect to stay relatively constant for this role.

What You'll Do

Supporting day-to-day operations of the People team and contributing to broader People programs

Coordinating and executing process improvement efforts to streamline workflows, such as organizing shared files and team resources so information is accurate and easy to find

Developing training content and managing course assignments and completion tracking in EasyLlama

Auditing employee records and internal systems for missing, outdated, or inconsistent data, and correcting issues so our records stay clean and reliable

Supporting payroll by tracking employee changes, auditing timecards for wage and hour compliance, and coordinating timely manager approvals

Preparing compliance paperwork for review, including state disability and family leave forms, wage garnishment orders, and employment verifications, and tracking deadlines through resolution

Executing planning and logistics for the company retreat, from vendor coordination and travel to agenda and attendee communications

Helping run company engagement efforts, such as scheduling and organizing new-hire lunches with our co-founders and maintaining our employee recognition program

Pitching in wherever needed — this is a startup, after all

Minimum Qualifications

Clear communicator — both written and verbal

A systems mindset: you naturally look at ways to simplify, automate and improve processes

Hands-on experience using AI tools

Highly organized and detail-oriented

Proactive problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments

Proficiency with G Suite and quick to learn new tools

Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and care

A genuine interest in People Operations and how organizations work

Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic setting.

Bonus Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Communications, Sociology or a related field, with the ability to start a full time role in September 2027.

Experience with HR systems - we use Rippling, Greenhouse and CultureAmp

Exposure to startups or small team environments

Enthusiasm for boating and clean energy.
