Role summary

Asimov is seeking a Scientist for their Lentiviral Vector Cell Line Development team in Boston, MA. The role involves engineering stable producer cell lines for LV therapeutics, driving upstream process optimization and scale-up. Responsibilities include performing cell line development processes, conducting assays for lentiviral vector quality, supporting research for enhanced therapeutic attributes, and contributing to process development and scale-up using various bioreactor systems. The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant biological or engineering field with hands-on industry experience in lentiviral vector production and cell line development for gene therapies. Experience with specific assays and bioreactor systems is required, with additional experience in downstream purification and genome engineering being highly desired.

Our mission at Asimov is to advance humanity's ability to design living systems, enabling biotechnologies with outsized benefit to society. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics.

We are seeking a Scientist to join our Lentiviral Vector Cell Line Development team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate has a proven track record developing lentiviral vector (LV) packaging and stable producer cell lines in an industry setting. In this role, you will play a central part in engineering stable producer cell lines for LV therapeutics while driving upstream process optimization and scale-up. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and help build the future of biological engineering.

About the Role:

  • Perform Lentiviral vector stable producer cell line development processes including transfection, pool generation, cloning, characterization, and cell banking using state-of-the-art equipment.

  • Perform assays to assess quantity, potency and infectivity of lentiviral vector preparations.

  • Support innovation through development of novel workflows and applications.

  • Support research projects to develop viral vector therapeutics with enhanced quality attributes such as infectivity, potency and/or cell targeting.

  • Work effectively as part of a cross-functional team in support of the LV CLD platform and in collaboration with Synthetic Biology and Process Development teams.

  • Contribute to process development efforts, including scale-up and characterization across Ambr15, Ambr250, and benchtop systems, as well as LV analytical assay development.

  • Design experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot, and maintain detailed records.

  • Represent LV CLD on project teams, making decisions for cell line development activities and effectively communicating results, progress and plans.

About You:

  • You have a PhD in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field with 0-2 years of hands-on industry experience with Lentiviral vector production and cell line development in support of gene therapies; alternatively, a MS with 3-4 years or Bachelors with 6-8 years of this type of experience.

  • Extensive experience performing viral transductions, including T-cell transduction assay, flow cytometry, and quantitative gene expression analyses (ddPCR or qPCR).

  • Experience with Ambr15, Ambr250, and/or benchtop scale viral vector bioreactor processes.

  • Experience with downstream purification of Lentiviral vectors, viral genome engineering, and/or host cell genome engineering related to virus production or producer cell line technologies is highly desired.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

We're fueled by a vision to transform biological engineering into a fully-fledged engineering discipline. Should you join our team, you will grow with a constantly evolving organization and push the frontiers of synthetic biology. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
