Role summary

Atwell is seeking an Assistant Crew Chief to support survey operations. This developmental role involves assisting the Crew Chief with field activities, operating and maintaining survey equipment, and ensuring vehicle readiness. Responsibilities include performing various survey tasks such as topographic mapping, construction layout, and boundary surveys. The ideal candidate will accurately record field notes following established SOPs. A High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver's license are required, along with 3-5 years of experience as a Survey Field Technician. Proficiency in basic plan and map reading and typical survey equipment is essential. Preferred qualifications include experience with Trimble, UAV surveys, and point cloud processing.

    • Job Description

    The Assistant Crew Chief is a developmental position that assists the survey Crew Chief by conducting field activities under direct supervision.

  • Operates and maintains a variety of survey equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Stock and help maintain a clean vehicle.
  • Assist in prompt start to survey activities at project site by assembling and setting up necessary equipment.
  • Perform survey activities such as: leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, profile, and cross section surveys.
  • Record field notes legibly and accurately while following the Atwell established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

    • Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle is required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a Survey Field Technician
  • Basic plan and map reading (i.e., construction/engineering plans, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, plats, etc.)
  • Typical survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS systems, data collectors, UAV’s, etc. Experience with Trimble brand preferred.
  • Proficiency in conducting UAV surveys and processing point cloud data is preferred. Knowledge of drones such as the DJI Matrice 350 RTI, Phantom 4 RTI and Wingra with LiDAR and photogrammetry payloads is desirable.
