Role summary

Austin Sensing Company is seeking a Systems Integration and Test Engineer to integrate and test their radar, acoustic, and RF sensors for defense, public safety, critical infrastructure, and autonomous systems. This hands-on role involves bringing together hardware, firmware, and software, developing test plans, verifying interfaces and system behavior, and debugging failures across disciplines. The engineer will build test fixtures, automate scripts, and work with manufacturing to ensure product reliability before deployment. The ideal candidate has experience with electronics, embedded firmware, and software integration, can read schematics, troubleshoot across hardware and software, and is proficient in Python for test automation. Familiarity with embedded Linux, networking, and lab equipment is also valued.

About Austin Sensing Company

Austin Sensing Company builds radar, acoustic, and RF sensors for defense, public safety, critical infrastructure, and autonomous systems. We design and manufacture our hardware in Austin, Texas, with a focus on making high-performance sensing reliable, affordable, and widely available.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Systems Integration and Test Engineer to bring our hardware, firmware, and software together into reliable, complete systems. You’ll own integration testing, find problems at the interfaces between components, and verify that assembled products meet their requirements before they leave our factory.

You’ll work closely with electrical, RF, FPGA, embedded systems, and software engineers. This is a hands-on role for someone who can trace a failure across disciplines, build a test setup that reproduces it, and work with the team to confirm the fix.

What You’ll Do

  • Integrate sensor hardware, embedded processors, firmware, networking, and application software into complete systems.

  • Develop system test plans and acceptance criteria based on product requirements.

  • Verify interfaces, data flow, timing, synchronization, and configuration across subsystems.

  • Build test fixtures, automated scripts, and diagnostic tools for repeatable integration and regression testing.

  • Test startup, shutdown, firmware updates, fault recovery, and behavior during power or network interruptions.

  • Measure system throughput, latency, data integrity, and stability under representative operating loads.

  • Debug failures across hardware and software, isolate root causes, and provide clear findings to the responsible engineers.

  • Maintain test configurations and records that identify hardware revisions, software versions, and results.

  • Work with manufacturing to develop end-of-line tests and clear pass/fail criteria for finished products.

  • Verify fixes and releases before production or customer deployment.

  • Work with field test and deployment engineers to reproduce issues found outside the lab and add them to test coverage.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience integrating and testing products that combine electronics, embedded firmware, and software.

  • The ability to read schematics, understand system interfaces, and troubleshoot across hardware and software.

  • Proficiency in Python or a comparable language for test automation, diagnostics, and data analysis.

  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other lab equipment.

  • Familiarity with embedded Linux, device logs, networking, and communications protocols.

  • Experience turning requirements into repeatable tests with clear acceptance criteria.

  • A disciplined approach to documenting failures, isolating root causes, and verifying fixes.

  • Clear communication and the ability to work across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with radar, RF, acoustic, or other sensing systems.

  • Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and high-speed data acquisition.

  • Experience developing production test stations, fixtures, or hardware-in-the-loop tests.

  • Experience with environmental testing, extended-duration testing, or reliability validation.

  • Familiarity with synchronized sensors, timestamping, and distributed systems.

  • Experience supporting hardware releases and troubleshooting deployed products.

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.

Benefits

  • 401(k)

  • Insurance benefits

  • Lunch and dinner served daily
