Role summary
We are seeking a Head of Android / AOSP to lead the development of AI-native phones. This role involves owning the Android platform architecture, defining AI integration at the OS level, and designing system services and security architecture. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with AOSP, Android internals, Java/Kotlin/C++, and building custom ROMs, with a strong background in system architecture and technical leadership. Experience with AI/ML integration, Android BSP/HAL, and power optimization is a plus.

Our mission is to build proactive applications and devices that bring intelligence into daily conversations, coordination and workflows, with minimal prompting.
Focus: Android OS, custom ROM, system architecture and hardware integration.
Responsibilities
Own the overall Android platform architecture and AOSP-based ROM development.
Define how AI capabilities should be integrated at the OS level.
Design system services and privileged APIs that allow AI agents to interact with the OS and applications.
Define system-level permission and security architecture.
Evaluate Android platform limitations and identify what needs to be modified or extended.
Work with hardware vendors / ODMs on device integration.
Lead Android platform engineering and establish technical standards.
Evaluate technical feasibility and trade-offs for the first phone.
Requirements
Strong experience with Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
Deep understanding of Android Framework, System Services and Android internals.
Experience with Binder IPC, Android permissions, SELinux and system processes.
Strong Java / Kotlin and C++ knowledge.
Experience building or modifying Android ROMs.
Experience shipping Android platform-level features, not just Android applications.
Strong system architecture and technical leadership experience.
Nice to have
Experience from Google Android / Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO or similar Android platform teams.
Experience with custom ROM development.
Experience with Android BSP, HAL and device bring-up.
Experience with background execution and power optimization.
Experience integrating AI or ML capabilities at the OS level.
