Role summary

Cirque du Soleil is seeking an On-Call Carpentry Technician for their Stage Carpentry team. This role is responsible for efficiently and safely operating multiple show tracks, positioning scenic elements and equipment for performances, training, and maintenance. Key duties include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing backstage areas and stage equipment, updating records, and maintaining carpentry documentation. The technician will also assist with inventory, participate in special projects like new show element construction, and cooperate with other departments to ensure safe environments. A strong understanding of Carpentry Department equipment, adherence to OSHA regulations, and participation in safety training are essential. The ideal candidate possesses strong problem-solving and organization skills.

The main objective of this role isto run multiple show tracks in an efficient and safe manner, in accordance with Cirque du Soleil standards and policies. They will also need to accomplish daily maintenance, inspections and training per the artistic schedule. All Technicians will be expected to work with other departments to accomplish the daily needs of the room. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to critically analyze problems to find solutions and will have strong organization skills. Why Join us as a On-Call Carpentry Technician? The On-Call Carpentry Technician will have the opportunity to:

Run cue tracks to position scenic elements and related equipment as directed for performances, artist training and maintenance;
Inspect, maintain and repair backstage areas and stage equipment;
Update maintenance and inspection records, as directed;
Maintain all carpentry documentation related to the maintenance, operation, etc. of equipment, systems and tracks;
Assist with inventory by identifying any additional equipment that may be required and communicate with Lead when necessary;
Participate in special projects, including the construction and installation of new show elements, and other projects that include carpentry elements or other needs that may fall within the department’s specialty, as directed;
Cooperate with other departments to ensure safe training, rehearsal and show environments;
Develop a thorough knowledge of all Carpentry Department equipment specific to the production in order tooperate equipment safely;
Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.

What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:

High School Diploma and or GED required;
At least one year of previous experience as a professional Stage Carpenter working on large-scale productions;
Previous experience working as a run crew technician and running show cue tracks;
Advanced power and hand tool skills;
Standard theatrical construction technique experience;
Working knowledge of Microsoft applications(Word, Excel and Outlook);
The following (5) qualifications are considered an asset to have:
- Knowledge of basic mechanics, electricity and electronics;
- Previous experience in finish carpentry or scenic painting;
- Welding certification;
- Previous experience working with metal, wood working, rigging, welding, mechanical and pneumatic;
- Formal fall protection and overall safety training;
Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card;
Ability to PASS a SWIM TEST
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; operating various lifts and heavy equipment; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
