Role summary

Our client is seeking a Business Development Representative to establish their business development function and cultivate builder relationships in Indianapolis. This role involves opening new accounts, re-engaging past clients, and expanding existing ones, focusing initially on single-family and townhome builders. The ideal candidate will emphasize schedule certainty and reduced callbacks while maintaining profitability, leveraging a base salary, uncapped commission, and a company vehicle for local travel.

Our client is hiring its first dedicated Business Development Representative to build the company's business development function and grow profitable, long-term builder relationships across the Indianapolis market. Reporting to the Vice President and working directly with ownership, this representative opens new builder accounts, re-engages former clients, and expands current accounts into new communities. Single-family and townhome builders come first, with multifamily general contractors following once that base is stable. Our client competes on reliability instead of price, and the right candidate knows how to sell schedule certainty and fewer callbacks while protecting margin. Pay combines a base salary with uncapped commission, and the role carries a company vehicle for use during working hours.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

New business

  • Generate new business with single-family and townhome builders across the Indianapolis metro, from first contact through awarded work

  • Build and work a target list of local and regional production, custom, and townhome builders

  • Lay the groundwork for multifamily growth with general contractors and developers once the single-family base is stable

Account growth and re-engagement

  • Re-engage former builder clients alongside ownership, presenting the operational improvements Allied has made

  • Grow current accounts into new communities and additional scopes of work

  • Widen the active builder base so no single account carries an outsized share of revenue

Relationships

  • Build relationships at every level of the builder organization, from purchasing managers and directors of construction to field superintendents

  • Spend meaningful time at communities and job sites, building credibility with superintendents and staying current on schedules and upcoming starts

  • Hand off each awarded job to the Residential or Multifamily field team with scope, schedule, and builder contacts confirmed

Pricing and proposals

  • Qualify every opportunity before it goes to pricing

  • Support pricing so every proposal meets our clients margin standards, and walk away from work that does not

  • Follow up on every submitted bid through award or loss, and record the reason for every loss

Pipeline and reporting

  • Log every call, visit, bid request, and follow-up in the company CRM the same day

  • Keep stage, estimated value, and expected award date current on every open opportunity

  • Report weekly activity and pipeline to the VP and ownership

Trade shows and networking

  • Represent Allied at trade shows, BAGI events, and other industry networking events

  • Enter every new event contact into the CRM and complete follow-up

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • At least two years selling building materials or installed labor directly to home builders or general contractors

  • At least two years in a quota-carrying sales role with a consistent record of meeting or exceeding targets

  • Recent sales experience in the central Indiana market

  • Established relationships with builder purchasing managers, construction leaders, or superintendents in the Indianapolis area

  • Proven ability to open new accounts, not only manage an existing book of business

  • No non-compete or non-solicit agreement that prevents calling on Indianapolis-area builders

  • Valid driver's license, a driving record that qualifies for the company vehicle, and comfort with daily local travel and job-site visits
