Role summary
CURA, a Canadian climate technology company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop the physical hardware for their innovative cement production technology. This role involves designing electrolyzer stacks, fixtures, and tooling, performing mechanical analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability. The engineer will translate electrochemical requirements into practical mechanical designs, support prototyping and testing, and contribute to scaling the technology from lab prototypes to industrial hardware for a commercial demonstration facility. The position requires strong design, analysis, prototyping, and collaboration skills, with a focus on safety and documentation.
CURA is a Canadian climate technology company working to change how one of the world’s most essential materials is made. Cement is responsible for approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions. Our mission is to eliminate those emissions by becoming the default technology for cement production everywhere.
Our electrochemical process splits limestone into lime and a pure stream of CO₂ for storage or use, with the potential to reduce emissions by up to 85% while lowering energy use and manufacturing costs. Designed to be retrofit-ready, it integrates with existing feedstocks, infrastructure and operations. CURA is working toward bringing a 30,000-tonne-per-year commercial demonstration facility online in 2028.
Led by experienced climate technology founders, we collaborate with cement producers, engineers, researchers and industry partners around the world to move breakthrough technology from the lab to industrial scale. We are building a team of curious scientists, inventive engineers and practical problem-solvers who enjoy tackling big challenges together. We combine scientific rigour with an entrepreneurial culture that values collaboration, creativity, learning and fun.
Safety is fundamental to how we work. CURA maintains a strong safety culture, and every team member completes occupational health and safety orientation and role-specific training.
The Role
As CURA's Mechanical Engineer, you own the physical hardware that makes our electrochemistry real. You will design the electrolyzer stacks and the fixtures, tooling, and test rigs around them, turning cell-level requirements into hardware that seals, holds compression, handles flow, and can actually be built and rebuilt as the design evolves. This role sits at the interface between our electrochemists and the machine shop, where a good mechanical decision is often the difference between a stack that runs for weeks and one that leaks on day one. As we move from lab cells toward our 30,000-tonne-per-year demonstration facility, you will be one of the people deciding how our core technology scales from a bench prototype into manufacturable industrial hardware.Key Responsibilities
Design, Prototype & BuildSupport the development of scalable stack architectures by improving manufacturability, assembly processes, reliability, and cost.
Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving, troubleshooting, collaboration, and innovation.
