Role summary

DigitalOcean is seeking a Senior Software Engineer 1 for their Network Products team to develop control plane software, APIs, and improve customer experience. This role involves implementing, testing, and optimizing scalable services, supporting existing products, and improving tooling and processes. The engineer will contribute to establishing best practices in development and architecture, working with technologies like Go, Consul, Kafka, SQL, Docker, and Kubernetes. The position requires experience with Go, high-performance systems, API design, full-stack development, cloud development, and CI/CD, with a preference for distributed systems experience.

As a Senior Software Engineer 1 at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. This role will be on the Network Products team, reporting to the Engineering Manager, where you will write control plane software: developing APIs, troubleshooting and improving the customer experience, and helping the team to own some of the product offerings end-to-end. Our team is passionate about quality, performance, and the reliability of the Network Products product suite and is excited about the impact our work has on the company and customers.

What You’ll Do:

Work as a member of the team on the implementation, testing and optimization of new services and tools that run at scale and solve performance and monitoring problems.

Work with other teams within Networking to build the next generation of products and services for our developers community.

Support existing products and contribute creative solutions to the pain points.

Help improve our toolings and process to ship robust and mission-critical parts of the ecosystem.

Help establish best practices for development and architecture and ways to achieve them

Use technologies and tools such as: Go, Consul, Kafka, SQL, Chef, Git, Jira, gRPC, Prometheus, Grafana, Lightstep, Docker, DNS, and Kubernetes

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:

Experience with Go programming language and unit tests

Some experience designing and developing high performance systems

Some domain knowledge of Networking stack or a strong willingness to learn

Experience designing and developing full-stack applications with databases and API

Experience with leading work across multiple teams to build API contracts

Experience with cloud development, containerization and virtualization

Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD)

Bonus: You have used gRPC to build robust distributed and high-demand systems

Bonus: Working knowledge of Temporal and Kafka

B.S/M.S in Computer Science or relevant and equivalent experience.

Compensation Range:

$139,200 - $174,000

JR: 2026-8309

Non-sales roles: In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in DigitalOcean’s annual bonus plan and may be eligible for a new hire equity grant, subject to plan terms and local eligibility. Bonus amounts depend on company and individual performance.
