The Opportunity

The Senior Corporate Accountant owns the accuracy of the general ledger for assigned corporate accounts. You will prepare journal entries, perform complex reconciliations, lead month-end and year-end close for your areas, and run down the discrepancies that do not resolve themselves.

Three things separate this seat from the Staff Accountant role. You independently own a set of balance sheet and income statement accounts rather than working assigned tasks. You take the discrepancies that need real research and judgment to resolve. And you supervise, train, and develop the staff accountants, reviewing their work before it goes anywhere.

What You'll Do

Own the General Ledger

  • Maintain general ledger accuracy for assigned corporate balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and perform complex account reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities for assigned areas, holding accuracy and timeliness.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances, escalating complex issues as needed.
  • Lead the Staff Accountants

  • Supervise, train, and develop staff accountants, including reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations.
  • Report and Comply

  • Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
  • Hold compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for assigned accounts.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and other departments to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
  • Qualifications

    Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Four (4) or more years of progressive general ledger and account reconciliation experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage assigned accounts and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Preferred

  • CPA or CMA designation.
  • Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or training accounting staff.
  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience using Vista ERP or a similar construction accounting system.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and financial modeling.
  • We recognize that experience comes from many paths. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful performance of the job is welcomed. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a one-for-one year basis, or vice versa.

    Work Environment

This role is based in the office. Work is primarily at a desk and on a computer, with occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Expect a fast-paced environment with concurrent close deadlines that calls for accuracy under time pressure.
