Role summary

DP Electric is seeking a Project Engineer to support project managers in their fast-turn special projects division. This role involves maintaining accurate project documentation, tracking submittals and change orders, coordinating with contractors and trade partners, and learning to scope jobs from site walk-throughs. The ideal candidate has hands-on electrical construction experience and the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications. This hybrid role offers opportunities for growth in a fast-paced, people-first culture with competitive benefits and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

About DP Electric

DP Electric is a premier commercial electrical contractor with more than 30 years of experience delivering complex electrical projects across Arizona, Texas, and the Southwest. As a 100% employee-owned company, we serve a diverse range of markets including data centers, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, higher education, commercial, and industrial.

At the heart of DP Electric’s success is its dedication to cultivating industry-leading talent. Through our in-house training program, DP University, we equip employees with advanced skills and expertise to meet the ever-changing demands of modern construction. By combining technical excellence with a client-first approach, we continue to set the standard for electrical contracting in the Southwest.

The Opportunity

The Project Engineer supports the project managers running our fast-turn special projects work. You will keep the documentation accurate, track submittals and change orders, coordinate with general contractors and trade partners, and start learning to scope a job from a walk-through rather than a drawing set.

Special projects move differently from large contract work. Jobs run from a few hundred thousand dollars into the millions, they move fast, and there is often no complete set of prints to work from. Some of it comes directly from the owner and some through a general contractor. Our model favors people who came up through the field, because you have to see the install in your head before you can scope it, price it, or execute it. This role is where that skill gets built, working alongside project managers who came up the same way.

What You'll Do

Own the Documentation

  • Maintain change order logs so every project modification is tracked and documented accurately.
  • Establish and manage RFI logs, and drive inquiries through to resolution.
  • Track and review submittals, coordinating timely execution with the general contractor or owner.
  • Own end-of-project closeout documentation and deliver it on time.
  • Learn to Scope and Price

  • Walk jobs alongside project managers to learn how scope gets built from existing conditions.
  • Support material and labor takeoffs for proposals and change orders.
  • Build working knowledge of electrical installation methods, materials, and pricing.
  • Support the Field and the Client

  • Work with field leadership to keep plans and field execution aligned.
  • Uphold quality assurance and monitor adherence to project specifications.
  • Support communication with owners, facility staff, general contractors, and trade partners including mechanical, security, and fire subcontractors.
  • Resolve technical inquiries and get field crews accurate information quickly.
  • Qualifications

    Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of hands-on electrical construction experience, or equivalent exposure to electrical installation work.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Preferred

  • Journeyman-level electrical knowledge and field experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in service, special projects, or fast-turn electrical work.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Procore, or Microsoft Project.
  • We recognize that experience comes from many paths. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful performance of the job is welcomed. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a one-for-one year basis, or vice versa.

    Work Environment

This role is based in the office with frequent visits to active jobsites and client facilities. Work is primarily at a desk and on a computer, with regular time walking jobs to scope work and verify existing conditions. Site visits require personal protective equipment and bring exposure to noise, dust, and weather. Expect a fast-paced environment where priorities shift with client needs.
