Role summary

Freenome is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Associate I for their Analytical team. This contractor role focuses on sample processing and equipment maintenance, requiring attention to detail and teamwork. Responsibilities include performing equipment maintenance, creating sample batches, managing inventory, documenting actions, assisting with reagents and testing, participating in QC/QA functions, and aiding in training and audits. Experience with automation and laboratory regulations is preferred. The role emphasizes quality, organization, and collaboration within a clinical laboratory setting.

At Freenome, we are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Associate I to help grow the Freenome Clinical Laboratory Analytical team. The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, with attention to detail and is team oriented. This person is responsible for all things related to sample processing and equipment maintenance. You are passionate about making a direct impact on patient lives through attention to detail, diligence in the lab, and cooperative teamwork. This role reports to the Supervisor, Analytical Laboratory.

Working Hours:

This position follows one of two schedules, (subject to change based on business needs):

Shift 1: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Shift 2: Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

Onboarding training for Shift 2 takes place Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., and may last up to two (2) months. Periodic extended hours and weekend rotations may be required for approximately six (6) months.

What you’ll do:

Perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) for machines and devices including, but not limited to, the following: centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pipettors, microplate readers, NovaSeq units, Agilent Bravo units, Hamilton units, and work cells, as needed

Create sample batches, printing labels, and labeling tubes and plates

Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for performance of duties

Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications

Assist CLSs with preparation and aliquoting of reagents

Assist CLSs during sample testing

Assist CLSs with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) functions

Participate in projects under the supervision of a CLS or supervisor along with maintaining quality and an efficient workflow in daily duties

Participate in cross-departmental projects

Assist with the training of existing laboratory personnel in new procedures and the training of new laboratory personnel

Assist with internal audits and inspection preparation, as needed

Set up the Hamilton and assisting with Hamilton automated procedures

Set up the work cell and assisting with work cell automated procedures

Ensure on-time calibration of laboratory equipment is scheduled and performed

Report all concerns of test quality and/or safety to the supervisor or safety officer

Work closely with the CLSs and Accessioning Team to provide consistent and ongoing support to the entire Service Department

Check, monitor, and record temperatures, perform root-cause analysis of deviations, and implement a resolution or initiating a service request as necessary

Write and revise SOPs as needed

Organize and maintain laboratory, equipment, personnel, and training documents

Identify process improvement opportunities and report to laboratory management

Provide guidance for new Clinical Laboratory Associates

Must haves:

Zero to one years of work experience in a clinical laboratory setting

The ability to prioritize tasks with a high emphasis on quality

Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

The ability to work as part of a team within a highly collaborative environment

Flexibility to variable shift start times depending on operational needs

Nice to haves:

High sample volume laboratory experience preferred

Experience working with automated equipment/systems

Have working knowledge of local, state and federal laboratory regulations
