Role summary

Genentech's DMPK group is seeking a Ph.D. level Senior Scientist with 2 years of relevant industry or post-doctoral experience to focus on translational modeling approaches for small molecule drug discovery and development. The role emphasizes Physiologically-based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling and simulations, requiring expertise in platforms like Simcyp, GastroPlus, or PK-Sim. Responsibilities include strategizing, executing, and reporting modeling work, presenting findings to various stakeholders, and potentially leading DMPK strategy for project teams. Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills are essential.

The Position

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of small molecule drug candidates. We accomplish this through the application of state-of-the-art technologies and sciences of bioanalysis, drug metabolism, drug transport and pharmacokinetics. The DMPK group works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to optimize leads, select clinical candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

The Opportunity

The DMPK department at Genentech is seeking a Ph.D. level Senior Scientist who is highly motivated to apply cutting edge translational modeling approaches to support the advancement of small molecule drug discovery and development projects. Physiologically-based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling will be a key focus of this position. Key technical responsibilities are to strategize, plan, execute, and report PBPK modeling and simulations independently, as well as to present work at cross-functional teams, department meetings, senior management review committees, regulatory interactions, and scientific conferences. Other responsibilities may also include representing DMPK at multi-functional discovery and development project teams and leading the DMPK strategy, including designing, executing and reporting non-clinical studies.

Who You Are

  • You hold a PhD in Pharmacokinetics, Drug Metabolism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific field, paired with 2 years relevant industry or post-doctoral experience in drug discovery/development.

  • You bring expertise in PBPK modeling and quantitative pharmacology, with hands-on experience using platforms such as Simcyp, GastroPlus, or PK-Sim.

  • You demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills, with a track record of thriving within cross-functional team environments.

Preferred

  • Experience with additional modeling and simulation tools, such as Phoenix, R, NONMEM, SimBiology, Python.

  • Prior pharmaceutical industry experience as a DMPK project leader.

  • Experience supporting diverse modalities (small/large molecules, peptides, etc.) in drug development or modeling.

Together, we’ll advance along the whole patient journey with the aspiration to prevent, stop and cure diseases.
