Role summary

Glitch Productions, an animation and games studio, seeks a 3D Rigger to work on both animated series and a game in Unreal Engine 5. The role involves building high-quality character rigs for cartoony animation, including facial rigs and skinning, and ensuring clean export to UE5. Responsibilities include taking rigs from initial build to animator use, problem-solving, and updating rigs as needed. Requires expert rigging and skinning in Maya, Python scripting, and hands-on UE5 experience, with around 3+ years of professional rigging experience. A strong reel showcasing stylized animation is crucial. Comfort working independently and clear written communication are essential.

About the project

Glitch Productions is an independent animation and games studio. Alongside our animated series, we're making a game in Unreal Engine 5 based on one of our existing IPs. You'll rig a cast across both.

We're a small team that moves quickly. Feedback comes straight from the leads, not through layers of review, so good work gets on screen fast, in both the series and the game. We're looking for people who take pride in seeing their work all the way through.

About the role

We need a character rigger to work across the series and the game, with time split roughly evenly between the two. You'll rig characters for exaggerated, cartoony animation, building high-quality rigs for the series and rigs that work within engine constraints for the game.

You'll take each rig from first build to in use by animators. We'll trust you to solve problems and bring ideas on how rigs are built, not just wait for direction.

What you'll do

  • Build character rigs for the animated series in Maya

  • Build game rigs for playable characters, NPCs and props, and export them cleanly to UE5

  • Rig for cartoony animation, with squash and stretch, stretchy limbs and expressive faces

  • Skin characters for clean deformation under extreme poses

  • Fix and update rigs as animators find issues on either project

What you'll need

  • Around 3+ years rigging characters professionally, in animation, games or both. A strong reel counts for more than years

  • Expert rigging and skinning in Maya

  • Python scripting expertise for both tooling and automations

  • Hands-on experience getting rigs working in Unreal Engine 5

  • A reel showing rigs built for stylised or cartoony animation, including faces

  • Comfort working independently: you manage your own priorities, ask questions early and communicate clearly in writing

  • Fluent written and spoken English

Nice to have

  • Rigging in Blender

  • Credits on both a shipped game and an animated series or film

  • Experience on small or indie teams

  • Animation skills
