Role summary

The Group Fitness Manager is a business leader responsible for driving operational excellence and delivering a superior member experience within the group fitness department. This role involves recruiting, training, and managing a team of over 30 instructors, developing and evolving class offerings across six studios, and monitoring member satisfaction. The manager will control operational expenditures against budget, act as a strategic team player, and potentially serve as Duty Manager. Key responsibilities include setting and tracking class utilization targets, collaborating with other departments, leading onboarding and payroll, and implementing operational SOPs. The role also focuses on KPI management, client relationship management, and fostering a positive team culture, ensuring high-quality programming and customer service.

The Group Fitness Manager is the business leader of the department. They create and support team culture to drive operational excellence and deliver superior member experience. Group Fitness Managers are enthusiastic, goal-oriented, results driven, eager to interact with members, and excited to develop and manage a team of high performing talent. They are an expert in all things Group Fitness! Other duties not listed here may be assigned as necessary to ensure the proper operations of the department.

  • Recruit, train, and motivate a team of 30+ group fitness instructors.
  • Create, develop and evolve group fitness classes across our six group fitness studios.
  • Monitor member satisfaction to ensure a consistently evolving world class fitness and wellness experience, echoing the brand values.
  • Control operational expenditure against budget, whilst challenging the status quo an entrepreneurial culture balancing commercial performance with member experience.
  • Support the Managing Director as a strategic team player within the leadership team, actively leading by example.
  • Act as the club Duty Manager when business needs dictate, ensuring all departments are delivering excellence.
  • Accountability of team's business deliverables by setting class utilization targets, following up, providing feedback and support for progress.
  • Collaborate with Membership & Events Departments for Group Fitness related Takeovers and class descriptions, booking policies and studio walk throughs.
  • Lead the operational components of New Hire Onboarding, Payroll and scheduling for the Group Fitness Department.
  • Implement and execute all operational SOPs including administrative duties associated with client outreach and staff accountabilities.

KPI Management

  • Proactively address business trends in class utilization vs. Club usage, identify peak times based on usage and maximize studio capacities to curate efficient scheduling.
  • Performance management of all Group Fitness Managers.

Client Relationship Management

  • Communication with potential leads and all clients.
  • Actively partake in New Member Onboarding.
  • Actively communicate with members on feedback and create strategies to improve experience.

Leader of Team Culture

  • Collaborate with all departments of the club to achieve interdepartmental synergy.
  • Manage optimal staffing targets to meet the needs of the business, which includes the interview and hiring process.
  • Behavior and performance management of trainers in order to maintain a high-quality team to uphold the brand standards and expectations of their role.
  • Establish and maintain friendliness and service standards for Group Fitness Instructors in their interactions with members and club staff.
  • Identify, collaborate, and align key talents to advance Group Fitness Instructor careers.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervising the group fitness staff and operations of the group fitness program to ensure the highest level of programming and customer service.
  • Assisting the club in achieving its overall goals.
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, motivating, directing, coaching and evaluating group fitness instructors and classes.
  • Ensuring that the group fitness studios are well maintained.
  • Ensuring a high level of member participation in the group fitness program.
  • Maintaining monthly payroll expenses and supply expenses at or below budget.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of fitness industry experience with relevant fitness management with a minimum of 30 team members for a large health club.
  • Degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, or Sports Management preferred.
  • Ability to proficiently use POS and CRM systems, timekeeping, and any other computer programs required to meet business needs of the club.
  • Cross-functional experience of working across different departments is preferred.
  • Nationally Certified Training Certificate must be current or obtained.
  • CPR/AED Cerfication must be current or obtained.
  • Must be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Natural leader that is organized and structured, coupled with a warm and friendly nature.

Compensation: $75,000- $85,000 annually based on experience
