Hello Heart is seeking a Director, Actuarial Services to lead actuarial strategy, health economic analyses, and financial value demonstration. This role involves translating complex healthcare data into actionable insights to showcase the value of their heart health solution. The Director will partner with clients, consultants, and internal teams to enhance the value proposition, support commercial growth, and inform strategic decisions. Responsibilities include leading health economic research, developing risk-based pricing models, managing performance guarantees and reserves, and representing the company in client engagements. The position requires 7+ years of actuarial experience in healthcare, proficiency in R, and client-facing experience.

About the role:

Hello Heart is looking for a strategic and commercially minded Director, Actuarial Services to deliver actuarial strategy, health economic analyses, and financial value demonstration across our business.

In this highly visible role, you will serve as an actuarial expert, translating complex healthcare data into clear, compelling insights that demonstrate the clinical and financial value of our heart health solution. You will partner with customers, consultants, health plans, and internal stakeholders to strengthen our value proposition, support commercial growth, and inform strategic decision-making.

Reporting into our VP, Commercial Actuary, you will collaborate closely with Medical Affairs, Consultant Relations, Sales, Growth, Customer Success, and Finance. You will lead health economic research, develop risk-based pricing models, oversee performance guarantees and related reserves, and represent Hello Heart in high-impact client and consultant engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sales, Consultant Relations, and Customer Success to strengthen proposals and communicate Hello Heart's economic value.
  • As a client-facing member of the team, join client and consultant calls, performance reviews, and renewal value conversations, providing strategy, decisions, and key input as a credible face of Hello Heart.
  • Advocate for sound actuarial practices, appropriate methodologies, and effective processes that support high-quality analyses and informed decision-making.
  • Serve as one of Hello Heart's primary actuarial subject matter experts, providing strategic guidance on healthcare economics, financial outcomes, pricing, and market opportunities.
  • Lead health economic studies, cost savings analyses, and outcomes research that quantify the impact of Hello Heart and support commercial growth.
  • Leverage medical claims, pharmacy claims, and other large datasets to evaluate healthcare utilization, medication adherence, costs, and financial outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain competitive performance guarantee offerings, assess associated financial risks, oversee reserve requirements, and educate internal stakeholders.
  • Develop risk-based pricing approaches and support value-based contracting and specialty incentive opportunities.
  • Present actuarial and health economic findings to customers, consultants, payers, industry audiences, other external stakeholders, and at conferences.
  • Serve as the primary actuarial contact for independent cost savings studies, research collaborations, and analyses conducted with consultants and external partners.
  • Evaluate the anticipated clinical and financial impact of new products and services, identify market opportunities, and provide actuarial input into strategic planning.
  • Develop executive-ready presentations, research materials, and publications that make complex statistical findings accessible and actionable.
  • Track healthcare market dynamics, competitor trends, Medicare Advantage quality measures, and emerging reimbursement models to inform business decisions.

    • Qualifications

  • 7+ years of actuarial experience within healthcare, health insurance, or a related healthcare organization, including experience conducting health economic and financial analyses.
  • Client-facing or sales-support experience, such as in consulting or a startup, with a track record of presenting analyses to customers, consultants, or executives.
  • A credible storyteller and strong listener who builds trust quickly.
  • Deep knowledge of actuarial principles, healthcare economics, risk assessment, and statistical methodologies, with the ability to apply findings to commercial and strategic decisions.
  • Proficiency in R and experience analyzing large medical and pharmacy claims datasets, including paid and allowed amounts, healthcare utilization, and medication adherence measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage artificial intelligence tools and agents to streamline research, analysis, reporting, and complex workflows while critically evaluating outputs for accuracy and reliability.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) credential.
  • Experience developing or evaluating healthcare cost savings studies, financial outcomes research, performance guarantees, and risk-based pricing models.
  • Understanding of risk adjustment, Medicare Advantage Star Ratings, healthcare quality metrics, and related audit processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex actuarial and statistical concepts into compelling presentations for executive and external audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and independently drive high-impact initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

    • The United States base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000 to $225,000. Salary ranges are determined by role and level. Individual compensation is based on job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Compensation details listed in United States job postings reflect annual salary and bonus only and do not include equity or benefits.
