Role summary

HYSON is seeking an experienced CAD/CAM Engineer to program CNC machines and prepare production-ready designs and documentation. This role involves turning customer and engineering drawings into accurate machining programs, designing manifold systems, and resolving complex design and manufacturing problems. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of manufacturing or engineering experience, proficiency in CAD/CAM software like SolidWorks or ESPRIT, and the ability to program multi-axis CNC machines. Experience with GD&T, BOMs, and post processors is required. Preferred qualifications include machinist experience and Lean manufacturing training.

HYSON is seeking an experienced CAD/CAM Engineer to program CNC machines and prepare production-ready designs and documentation across Hyson’s product lines. In this role, you will turn customer and engineering drawings into accurate, efficient machining programs that drive quality, shorten lead times, and bring new designs to the shop floor. The ideal candidate is a self-directed team player who can prepare complex layouts, drawings, and designs from customer data and blueprints with limited supervision. This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program CNC machines, including multi-axis (4 or more axes) equipment, using 3D CAD/CAM software, generating accurate, efficient cutter paths that meet part specifications and machine capabilities.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and part specifications to select cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies that balance cycle time, tool life, and quality.
  • Design manifold systems from customer information, creating 3D models and production prints that are ready for manufacturing.
  • Resolve complex design and manufacturing problems using analytical judgment and initiative, working with limited supervision.
  • Review engineering drawings and supporting documents for adherence to company standards, then release final drawings and specifications to the shop and implement revisions so production runs on current documents.
  • Prepare, update, and issue Bills of Material (BOMs) and drawings for all components designed and released to the shop, keeping records accurate and current.
  • Maintain and update post processors and databases associated with the CAD/CAM software so machine output is accurate and repeatable.
  • Collaborate with customers on design problems, part prints, concurrent engineering, and production feasibility so designs can be manufactured efficiently.
  • Plan, specify, justify, and procure new or upgraded tooling to improve productivity, quality, or cost.
  • Investigate root causes of design and programming issues and document corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Performs duties as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to company Code of Ethics.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing or engineering experience, preferably in the tool and die or precision machining industry.
  • Experience with 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software such as SolidWorks, ESPRIT, SolidCAM, or similar.
  • Ability to program multi-axis CNC machines (4 or more axes), including the most complex machines at the site.
  • Working knowledge of post processors and databases associated with CAD/CAM software.
  • Ability to design a tool from an engineering concept.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, with the ability to read and interpret standard and geometric tolerances on blueprints.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to use measuring tools (e.g., gages, FARO Arm).
  • Ability to solve complex problems using analytical judgment and initiative, and to work with limited direction.
  • Ability to influence engineering and leadership in developing simplified set-up techniques for complex set-ups.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a team and adapt to changing assignments.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, ESPRIT, or SolidCAM preferred.
  • 3+ years of machinist experience operating CNC machines, gained through an apprenticeship, on-the-job, or vocational/technical training preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and/or Six Sigma training a plus.
  • New product introduction experience a plus.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline preferred.
