Role summary

Ice Miller LLP is seeking a 2L summer associate interested in patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation for its Intellectual Property team. The 10-week program in Philadelphia or New York offers exposure to various practice groups, skill development in research, writing, and presentation, client contact opportunities, and competitive compensation. Candidates require a technical degree (engineering, computer science, life sciences), eligibility for the Patent Bar, strong writing and analytical skills, and prior work experience. The role emphasizes teamwork, leadership, time management, and cross-cultural collaboration. Applicants must have permanent US work authorization and be enrolled in the JD class of 2028.

Ice Miller is seeking a summer associate who is interested in patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation to join our Intellectual Property team in Philadelphia or New York. Candidates must have a technical degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or life sciences, including biology, microbiology, or chemistry.

Ice Miller’s 10-week summer associate program includes:

Exposure to our Intellectual Property practice group as well as opportunities to learn about the firm’s other practice groups,

Opportunities to develop direct working relationships with our attorneys and patent agents to enhance your research, writing, and presentation skills,

Guidance, mentoring, and regular feedback,

In-depth training focused on professional and substantive legal skills,

Opportunities for client contact,

Social events and team building activities,

And competitive compensation.

In addition to excellent academic credentials and technical background outlined above, we seek IP summer associates who:

Are eligible to take the Patent Bar,

Have an interest in litigation,

Possess strong writing and analytical ability,

Excel in a team environment,

Demonstrate leadership skills,

Have prior work experience, including legal, military, or service industry experience,

Are curious, motivated, and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic work environments,

Manage their time and their projects diligently,

And have prior experiences that prepare them to work with attorneys/agents, staff, and clients from cultures and backgrounds different from their own.

All applicants must:

Have permanent authorization to work in the United States,

And have obtained an undergraduate degree and are enrolled in the JD class of 2028 at an accredited law school.

New York compensation for this role is $4,134 weekly.

Philadelphia compensation for this role is $3,990 weekly.
