Job Description:

Baxter Manufacturing, a division of ITW Food Equipment Group, is seeking a Software Engineer to support software and connected-product development for commercial food equipment.

This position serves as the technical lead between Baxter and third-party software development partners. Responsibilities include defining requirements, coordinating development, testing and validating completed software, troubleshooting field issues, and supporting releases throughout the product lifecycle.

The role supports embedded controls, touchscreen interfaces, connected applications, Microsoft Azure cloud services, APIs, databases, and wireless connectivity. Most major software development is performed by external partners; however, the engineer must have sufficient software experience to understand and troubleshoot code, evaluate proposed solutions, and perform smaller software or firmware updates when appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned software projects from requirements through development, validation, release, and field support.
  • Translate product, customer, service, and engineering needs into clear software requirements, scopes of work, and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate priorities, schedules, technical issues, defects, and releases with third-party software developers.
  • Review proposed solutions and verify completed software meets functional, reliability, usability, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Support embedded control software, touchscreen applications, microcontrollers, and ESP32-based connectivity solutions.
  • Support Microsoft Azure systems used for device provisioning, over-the-air updates, telemetry, diagnostics, and connected-equipment management.
  • Troubleshoot communication between equipment, embedded controllers, networks, applications, APIs, and cloud services.
  • Use tools such as Postman to test APIs and troubleshoot software integrations.
  • Document defects, verify corrective actions, and approve software changes prior to release.
  • Troubleshoot software and connectivity issues found during engineering testing, manufacturing, or on equipment installed in the field.
  • Use telemetry, logs, diagnostic information, and laboratory testing to identify root cause and corrective actions.
  • Support Wi-Fi connectivity and customer cybersecurity requirements, including security questionnaires, trust-center reviews, and technical discussions with customer IT organizations.
  • Communicate software architecture, network requirements, data flows, cloud connectivity, and update processes to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • 100% on site role interacting with production and other departments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in software development, embedded systems, connected products, or software systems engineering.
  • Experience with software requirements, testing, troubleshooting, release, and lifecycle support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate technical work performed by external development partners.

Technical Qualifications

Working knowledge or experience with several of the following:

  • C
  • C#
  • TypeScript
  • SQL
  • ASP.NET Core Web API
  • Microsoft Azure
  • REST APIs
  • Postman
  • Embedded systems and microcontrollers
  • ESP32 development
  • Wi-Fi networking
  • IoT or connected-device systems

Expert-level experience in every technology is not required. The engineer must have sufficient technical depth to define requirements, communicate effectively with developers, troubleshoot issues, evaluate solutions, validate completed work, and make smaller software changes when needed.
