
Director of Architecture - Data and AI
Role summary
JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Director of Architecture for Data and AI within the Commercial and Investment Bank Operations. This leadership role involves setting the direction for Data and AI architecture, driving innovation with technologies like Search, Vector, and Graph data stores, and leading technology implementations. The position requires accountability for decisions influencing teams, budget, and operations, as well as establishing governance standards for AI-assisted workflows. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of software architecture experience, including 5+ years in large-scale data analytics platforms, and a strong background in cloud-native architecture and AI governance.

As a Director of Architecture at JPMorganChase within the Commercial and Investment Bank Operations, you lead a specific area of architecture and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of architecture applications, processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and a driver of innovation to achieve the target state architecture goals.
Job Responsibilities
- Sets the direction for Data architecture for diverse set of transactional and analytics applications
- Drive the direction of AI enablement at the data layer, with innovative use of Search, Vector and Graph data stores
- Leads technology and process implementations to achieve functional architecture objectives, conducting governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations
- Leads reuse-first adoption of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate architecture delivery and improve decision quality across the area, with human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data
- Makes and is accountable for decisions that influence teams’ resources, budget, tactical operations and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
- Establishes governance standards for AI-assisted workflows used in architecture and engineering decision-making, ensuring traceability/auditability and alignment to resiliency, security, and control obligations
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- 15+ years of experience in software architecture, with at least 5 years in specifically architecting large scale complex data analytics platforms
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years applied experience
- Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of architects and hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
- Demonstrated experience leading teams in the safe use of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment for architecture and delivery workflows, including validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity
- Ability to evaluate AI-assisted recommendations before adoption and set review/approval expectations that align to resiliency, security, and auditability outcomes
- Experience leading a product as a Product Owner or Product Manager
- Practical cloud native experience
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Strong foundation architecting data solutions that require multiple layers of horizontal and vertical processing complex data structures
- Distributed systems & cloud literacy: understanding of performance, partitioning, storage formats, compute engines, and cloud services
- Experience innovating around AI capabilities in large data platforms, and bringing the best of performance and scale, business-critical applications
- Solid experience architecting Semantic Search solutions in structured and semi-structured data environment
- Proven track record of delivering complex trading or financial systems in a global banking environment
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
