Role summary

Kaseya is seeking a Release Train Engineer to join their Business Applications Team. This new role involves building an Agile Release Train (ART) capability from scratch, establishing practices, ceremonies, and dependency infrastructure to ensure predictable delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience building ARTs in organizations without a defined structure, earning trust across engineering and product. Responsibilities include conducting organizational assessments, defining the RTE function, facilitating PI Planning, managing dependencies, consulting on sprint processes, and providing ongoing ART leadership. Strong technical literacy, hands-on Agile tooling proficiency (Jira/Azure DevOps), and deep SAFe fluency are required, along with 7+ years in Agile delivery leadership and 3+ years as an RTE or equivalent.

Position Summary

Kaseya is seeking an experienced Release Train Engineer (RTE) to join our Business Applications team and help transform our legacy Lead-to-Cash platform into a scalable, best-in-class solution that supports the company's continued growth.

This is a newly created role responsible for establishing and institutionalizing the Release Train Engineer function within the organization. While agile practices, tools, and engineering teams are already in place, the successful candidate will build the Agile Release Train (ART) operating model, establish effective planning and coordination practices, and improve cross-team alignment, dependency management, and delivery predictability.

The ideal candidate has successfully built an RTE or equivalent ART-level capability in an organization where the function did not previously exist. This individual must be comfortable operating in an evolving environment, earning trust across Engineering, Product Management, and senior leadership, and translating agile principles into practical delivery improvements. The role requires a hands-on leader who can establish structure, coach teams, resolve cross-functional challenges, and create sustainable practices that improve how work flows across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the current organizational structure, team topology, agile ceremonies, tooling, and delivery workflows to identify bottlenecks, dependencies, and opportunities to improve delivery effectiveness.
  • Define and establish the RTE function, including its responsibilities, operating model, governance practices, and engagement with Engineering, Product Management, Architecture, and senior leadership.
  • Design and implement an Agile Release Train (ART) structure and establish or optimize Program Increment (PI) Planning and associated planning cadences.
  • Own cross-team dependency management by maintaining dependency boards, tracking commitments, identifying upstream and downstream impacts, and proactively resolving blockers across teams.
  • Apply the ROAM framework (Resolved, Owned, Accepted, Mitigated) to identify, document, assign, and track risks throughout PI Planning and execution.
  • Work directly within agile delivery tools, including Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent platforms, to structure work items, map dependencies, configure dashboards, and maintain transparent ART-level reporting.
  • Partner with Scrum Masters and delivery teams to assess ceremony effectiveness, coach agile practices, improve team collaboration, and strengthen alignment between planned work and actual delivery.
  • Facilitate ART Syncs, Scrum of Scrums, Product Owner Syncs, System Demos, Inspect and Adapt (I&A) workshops, and retrospectives to drive alignment, surface impediments, and implement measurable improvements.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Architecture to ensure backlog readiness, prioritize dependencies, align delivery plans, and prepare teams for upcoming PI cycles.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for cross-team delivery challenges, ensuring risks, impediments, progress, and dependencies are visible and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Establish and monitor meaningful delivery metrics to evaluate flow, predictability, dependency resolution, and continuous improvement, using insights to drive action rather than reporting alone.
  • Apply value stream mapping and other Lean-Agile techniques to identify systemic bottlenecks, reduce handoffs, and improve the flow of value across teams.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organization, coaching stakeholders at all levels and fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish a sustainable RTE operating model that is embedded within the organization and continues to deliver value as teams and business needs evolve.

    • Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in Agile delivery, software development delivery leadership, or a related discipline, including at least 3 years serving as a Release Train Engineer or in an equivalent ART-level leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing an RTE function, ART operating model, or equivalent cross-team agile delivery capability in an organization where the function did not previously exist.
  • Deep knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), including PI Planning, ART events, roles, Lean-Agile principles, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Hands-on proficiency with agile delivery tools such as Jira and/or Azure DevOps, including work item hierarchy, dependency mapping, dashboards, and delivery metrics.
  • Strong technical understanding of software development lifecycles, CI/CD processes, testing practices, and engineering constraints, with the ability to facilitate credible planning and problem-solving discussions with technical teams.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cross-team dependencies, identify delivery risks, remove impediments, and improve execution across multiple teams.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and business functions.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, including attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or evolving environments, establish structure, and drive outcomes without relying on predefined processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification; SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) certification is a plus.
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent agile or project management certification.
  • Experience with value stream mapping and identifying systemic bottlenecks, inefficient handoffs, and opportunities to improve delivery flow.
  • Exposure to Lean Portfolio Management, including aligning portfolio epics, funding priorities, and OKRs with ART execution.
  • Experience coaching Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Engineering leaders, and senior stakeholders on agile delivery practices and continuous improvement.
  • Experience supporting large, multi-team delivery environments, including Agile Release Trains comprising 80 or more team members.

    • Key Success Measures

  • First 90 days: Complete the organizational assessment, establish key stakeholder relationships, implement dependency tracking in the delivery toolchain, and facilitate or establish a plan for the first PI Planning event.
  • Within 6 months: Establish a consistent PI Planning cadence, build an engaged Scrum Master community, and demonstrate measurable improvement in cross-team dependency management and delivery coordination.
  • Within 12 months: Institutionalize the RTE function and ART operating model, with clearly understood responsibilities, sustainable practices, transparent delivery metrics, and continuous improvement embedded across participating teams.
