Role summary

KEV is seeking a contract Product Designer to own the end-to-end design process for mission-critical financial software for K-12 schools. This role involves framing problems, conducting UX research and concept testing, and delivering polished, accessible designs for web and mobile platforms. The designer will simplify complex financial workflows, create wireframes and prototypes, and collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in B2B SaaS product design, strong UX/UI craft, proficiency in Figma, and experience with user research and usability testing. Familiarity with front-end concepts and AI-assisted design is a plus.

About the Role

We are looking for a Product Designer for a contract

End-to-end role. You will own discovery from first principles—framing the problem, running the research, and pressure-testing concepts—then carry the work through to polished, accessible delivery and post-launch iteration. You will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, security and compliance partners, customers, and leadership to translate genuinely complex financial workflows into clear, elegant solutions. The ideal candidate is a strategic problem solver with strong UX and UI craft who is comfortable operating with ambiguity and minimal hand-holding in a fast-paced B2B SaaS environment.

How You’ll Contribute

Own discovery end-to-end—frame the problem, define research questions, and lead a rigorous UX research and concept-testing process that validates real demand before significant build investment.

Drive design from discovery through delivery—own ePay and adjacent initiatives across the full lifecycle, from requirements and flow definition through implementation and post-launch iteration, driving high-quality outcomes.

Map and simplify complex workflows—turn multi-step payment, approval, and disbursement flows into clear end-to-end journeys, wireframes, mockups, and clickable prototypes that communicate concepts and de-risk decisions early.

Conduct user research and usability testing—plan and run moderated and unmoderated studies with bookkeepers, district staff, and other stakeholders to validate assumptions and inform design decisions.

Design accessible interfaces for web and mobile—deliver intuitive, elegant, WCAG-conscious experiences using a test-and-learn approach across desktop and mobile.

Partner deeply across functions—collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, customers, security/compliance, and leadership to understand needs and translate them into effective, buildable solutions.

Produce precise specifications—create detailed design specs and partner with Engineering to ensure accurate, high-quality implementation.

Contribute to KEV’s design system—use, extend, and help evolve shared patterns and components to ensure consistency across products.

Communicate and align—present design work clearly to cross-functional teams and stakeholders, and build shared understanding around direction and trade-offs.

Iterate with data—continuously refine designs using user feedback, analytics, and data-driven insights, and stay current with industry trends, UX best practices, and emerging technologies, including AI-assisted design and prototyping tools.

Who You Are

5+ years of experience as a Product Designer, with a track record of leading initiatives end-to-end—ideally within a B2B SaaS environment.

Demonstrated ownership of discovery: you are comfortable framing ambiguous problems, scoping the work, and driving from research through delivery with minimal direction.

Strong UX and UI craft with a keen eye for detail and accessibility across desktop and mobile platforms.

Deep experience with UX methodologies, user research, prototyping, and usability testing, including moderated research.

Advanced proficiency in design tools such as Figma, plus comfort with rapid prototyping.

Strategic product thinking with the ability to balance user needs, business goals, and technical and compliance constraints.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working with and influencing diverse stakeholders, including leadership.

Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Diploma or bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Nice to Have

Technical fluency—familiarity with front-end concepts (e.g., React, component-based design, design tokens) or the ability to read and reason about code—to collaborate even more closely with Engineering.

Experience with AI-assisted design workflows or agentic/prototyping tools (e.g., AI-native research synthesis, Figma-to-code or AI prototyping) and curiosity about how these accelerate discovery and delivery.

Exposure to payments, fintech, accounting, or other complex, regulated domains.
