Role summary

Lam Research is seeking an Engineering Technician 3 to support the design, engineering, and testing of etch and deposition products in the semiconductor industry. The role involves hands-on support for electro-mechanical systems, experimental circuitry, and test equipment, including sample preparation, testing, troubleshooting, and fault isolation. Key responsibilities include organizing shipments, performing sample intake and preparation for STEM tools, and adhering to fixed procedures. The position requires 2-4 years of related experience in the semiconductor industry, particularly with silicon wafers and fab tools, strong attention to detail, and good troubleshooting skills. A swing shift schedule is anticipated. Preferred qualifications include an Associate's degree or technical certificate in a relevant field, excellent manual dexterity, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

The group you’ll be a part of

In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam’s etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.

The impact you’ll make

At Lam, as an Engineering Technician, you play a crucial role in supporting activities including design, test, modification, and assembly of electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, and specialized test equipment. Referencing schematics, diagrams, and descriptions, you conduct testing and troubleshooting. You'll perform fault isolation and assist in determining methods to remedy malfunctions. Your commitment to precision and problem-solving enhances Lam's engineering systems.

What you'll do

  • Organize shipments of microscopy materials to external labs. Perform sample intake and outgoing procedures which includes screening for physical and digital quality and photographing contents. Identify and set aside samples which do not meet lab's submission expectations.
  • Take care of sample preparation tasks which are required before loading samples into our STEM tools. May include ALD coatings, application of other protective coatings, identifying and marking areas of interest based on a schematic, resizing samples, and similar tasks.
  • Follow fixed procedures and repeat with a wide variety of sample configurations.
  • Customer service.
  • Especially successful, tenured techs in this role may pursue a career in electron microscopy within our group.

This specific position is for 5x8 swing, tentatively planned to start at 4pm. There may be some flexibility in this start time and schedule if you have a specific need to modify; we can discuss.

Who we’re looking for

  • 2-4 years of related work experience in the semiconductor industry, especially handling silicon wafers, processing wafers in fab tools, cleaving wafers into coupons, and identifying features of interest based on a wafer schematic.
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Good troubleshooting and pattern recognition skills
  • Able to organize large quantities of items
  • Sees task repetition as an opportunity to iterate and innovate better methods
  • Fond of learning and responds well to feedback
  • Understanding of how semiconductors are created

Preferred qualifications

  • Associate's degree, technical certificate, or higher in a discipline relevant to the semiconductor industry such as Microelectronics Technology, Physics/Engineering, Computer Science, etc.
  • Excellent manual dexterity.
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal, in English.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work a shift schedule.
