Role summary

Latch is seeking a Member of Technical Staff specializing in Gene Therapy to be the company's authority in this domain. This role involves owning gene therapy benchmarks across discovery, development, and translation, defining correct work, and shaping how AI agents reason about these modalities. The individual will collaborate with scientists on drug programs, work with CROs for experiments, and build a new function and team. The position requires 5+ years of hands-on gene therapy experience and a desire to lead a new function.

Member of Technical Staff - Gene Therapy

Latch builds rigorous scientific benchmarks (benchmarks.bio) that measure how well AI agents perform real biology. Frontier AI labs and pharma use them to answer one question: can an agent handle the messy, multi-layered reasoning that real biological work demands?

Every benchmark is grounded in real experimental and clinical work, including designing experiments, interpreting data, reading clinical endpoints, and advancing compounds. Each is built by scientists who have done that work themselves.

We're roughly 100 people in San Francisco, backed by Lux Capital, Coatue, Fifty Years, Haystack, Jeff Dean, Alec Nielsen, and George Church.

We're seeking a Member of Technical Staff for Gene Therapy to lead our benchmark and define how the field measures AI in Gene Therapy.

About the role

You will be Latch's authority on gene therapy. You will own the gene therapy benchmarks on our roadmap, decide what correct work looks like in these modalities, and shape how our agents reason about them. This is a new function at Latch. You will define what it needs as much as you will execute it.

What you will do

  • Author and ship the gene therapy benchmarks on our roadmap across discovery, development, translation, and long-horizon work.

  • Be the scientific authority at Latch for all things gene therapy.

  • Collaborate with scientists to design and run agentic drug programs in the wet lab.

  • Work with CROs to run experiments and gather data that inform our benchmarks.

  • Build the team lead, building a function beyond yourself.

What we look for

  • 5+ years hands-on in gene therapy.

  • Strong, defensible opinions about what correct work looks like.

  • You seek to lead a new function and team.
