Role summary
Sumter County Animal Hospital is seeking 1st through 4th year veterinary students for a paid externship in Wildwood, Florida. This progressive, fast-paced small animal practice offers comprehensive services including preventative care, surgery, urgent care, dentistry, diagnostics, radiology, acupuncture, and boarding. The externship provides flexible scheduling, paid hours, future employment preference, and dedicated mentorship. Candidates must be DVM students from an AVMA accredited institution and possess compassion, teamwork, and strong communication skills. The role involves enhancing education through real-world experience with small animals, including exotic pets and occasional wildlife.

Sumter County Animal is a well-established, progressive, fast paced 1 doctor small animal practice located in Wildwood, Florida. We offer many services to provide the best comprehensive care to our patients including Preventative Care, Surgery, Urgent Care, High Speed Dentistry, Cold Laser Therapy, In-House Diagnostics, Digital full body radiology, OFA certification, Acupuncture, Medical and/or Vacation Boarding and more. We see small lizards, geckos, small pocket pets, and occasional wildlife. We strive for low stress, compassionate care in all interactions with our patients, to foster a sense of safety and trust. We want coming to the clinic to be good experience for everyone.
Sumter County Animal Hospital is located in Wildwood, Florida which is just outside of the growing The Villages Community. We are only 45 minutes away from Orlando. There are endless activities within the Orlando metropolitan area including theme parks, restaurants, and concerts. Also, within 30 minutes are endless state parks and recreation areas with ample nature trails, springs, beaches, and lakes. Popular activities include food and wine at Epcot, Harry Potter World at Universal, Horse shows at the Florida Horse Park, or Glass bottom boat tour in Silver Springs State Park. There are endless activities within an easy commute making the area a wonderful place to enjoy a healthy and active work-life balance. Sumter county is an “A” school district making it an ideal area to raise a family!
This externship is paid at $15 per hour
