Role summary

Meta is looking for an experienced Software Engineer with Technical Leadership skills to join their Infrastructure team. This role involves building large-scale distributed systems that handle millions of requests per second with high availability and low latency. The engineer will drive technical direction, communicate complex systems, assess new technologies, and lead long-term technical roadmaps for cross-company efforts. A strong background in C, C++, Java, or C# with extensive experience in server applications and systems is required, along with proven leadership in planning and executing industry-wide engineering initiatives. Experience in mentoring engineers and cross-functional collaboration is also essential.

Meta is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the Software Engineering (Infrastructure) team. The Software Engineering (Infrastructure) team builds large distributed components that run Facebook. Our code serves millions of requests per second and it does so with sub-second latency and in a fault-tolerant manner. We handle everything from Facebook scale data storage, to synchronization and coordination of large server clusters, to providing a runtime environment for front end Facebook code. We are looking for candidates who share a passion for tackling complexity and building platforms that can scale through multiple orders of magnitude.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the team's goals and technical direction to pursue opportunities that make your larger organization more efficient
  • Effectively communicate complex features and systems in detail
  • Understand industry & company-wide trends to help assess & develop new technologies
  • Partner & collaborate with organization leaders to help improve the level of performance of the team & organization
  • Identify new opportunities for the larger organization & influence the appropriate people for staffing/prioritizing these new ideas
  • Lead long term technical vision and roadmap for large cross-company efforts
  • Suggest, collect and synthesize requirements and create an effective feature roadmap


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 12+ years coding experience in C, C++, Java and/or C#
  • 12+ years experience building server applications and systems
  • Experience in driving large cross-functional/industry-wide engineering efforts
  • Proven track record of planning multi-year roadmap in which shorter-term projects ladder to the long term vision
  • Experience leading projects with industry-wide impact
  • Significant experience in mentoring/influencing engineers across organizations
  • Vast experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with operating system internals, file systems, programming language design, or compilers
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • 5+ years experience building AI / ML applications, experience in ML system development


$271,000/year to $347,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
