Role summary
Meta's Reality Labs is seeking a Principal Contract Manufacturing Sourcing Manager to lead end-to-end sourcing strategies for cutting-edge VR and AR hardware. This role involves identifying and developing global contract manufacturing partners, leading complex negotiations on pricing, capacity, and supply agreements, and driving total cost of ownership improvements. You will partner with engineering and operations to influence design-for-manufacturability, establish supplier performance frameworks, manage supply risk, and develop multi-generational sourcing roadmaps. The position requires 12+ years of experience in consumer electronics sourcing and supply chain management, with a focus on high-complexity hardware. Experience with AI tools for workflow optimization is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the long-term contract manufacturing sourcing strategy for Reality Labs wearable and spatial computing hardware, including VR headsets, AR glasses, and mixed reality devices
- Identify, qualify, and develop contract manufacturing partners capable of supporting the unique complexity of consumer wearable electronics at scale
- Lead executive-level negotiations with contract manufacturing partners on pricing, capacity commitments, tooling investments, and long-term supply agreements
- Drive total cost of ownership improvements across the contract manufacturing supply base through should-cost modeling, competitive benchmarking, and structured negotiation
- Partner with hardware engineering, industrial design, and product operations teams to influence design-for-manufacturability decisions that improve yield, cost, and supply flexibility
- Establish and govern supplier performance frameworks including capacity planning, quality metrics, delivery performance, and continuous improvement programs
- Develop and maintain multi-generational sourcing roadmaps aligned to Reality Labs hardware product roadmaps, ensuring supply base readiness for new product introductions
- Manage supply risk across the contract manufacturing portfolio by identifying single points of failure and driving dual-source or alternative supplier strategies
- Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to other sourcing professionals on the team, elevating the overall capability of the contract manufacturing sourcing function
- Represent the contract manufacturing sourcing function in cross-functional leadership forums, communicating supply strategy, risk posture, and investment recommendations to executive stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in contract manufacturing sourcing, supply chain management, or operations within the consumer electronics, wearables, or hardware technology industry
- Experience leading complex, multi-generational contract manufacturing negotiations including pricing, capacity, tooling, and long-term supply agreements with global EMS or ODM partners
- Experience developing and executing sourcing strategies for high-complexity consumer hardware products involving precision mechanical, optical, or electronic assembly
- Experience influencing executive-level decisions across internal and external stakeholders in ambiguous, cross-functional environments requiring independent judgment
- Experience with total cost of ownership modeling, should-cost analysis, and competitive benchmarking in a contract manufacturing context
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with optical, display, or sensor assembly processes relevant to augmented and virtual reality hardware platforms
- Experience building and scaling a contract manufacturing sourcing function or center of excellence within a high-growth hardware organization
- Experience managing new product introduction processes in partnership with contract manufacturing partners, including ramp readiness, yield improvement, and capacity qualification
- Experience sourcing contract manufacturing for wearable devices, AR/VR hardware, or other miniaturized consumer electronics with high precision assembly requirements
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
